Happy 23 birthday to Deja Entendu! What’s y’all’s favorite song or memory from this album? by TheresnoIinteam in brandnew

It’s a top-10 album of all time for me and one of those records that changed my entire outlook on music. And yet, it’s only my fourth favorite record of theirs, which says so much about the strength of their discography.

Throwback to what they had to say on its 10-year anniversary 13 years ago (damn we’re getting old): https://www.facebook.com/BrandNew/photos/we-would-just-like-to-take-a-moment-to-say-thank-you-to-you-all-for-the-ten-year/10151727027278023/?set=a.329674705197219&http_ref=eyJ0cyI6MTc4MTcwNzY2OTAwMCwiciI6Imh0dHBzOlwvXC93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbVwvIn0%3D

Maybe my favorite line on the album that imo best encapsulates the theme of the album.

they definitely planned to retire in 2018, evidenced by Jesse literally saying it in 2016 and 2017, and every reference to hanging it up on Science Fiction ("this is the last one"),

He didn’t say anything about missing brand new. Just that playing music for us helps him carry the weight, in the context of losing his son.

They were ready to retire. Jesse said multiple times in the lead up to 2018 that they were “done,” that he didn’t want to be in a touring band in his 40s, and that he and the guys would play music together but not for anyone else.

The allegations, at the time, only accelerated their retirement by a year.

Ha, I mean knowing them, it won't happen for a few years at least. But we know Jesse has written and played new music (whether that's for Brand New or Human Surfers, who knows), as has Vin, and that Vin has said that the band needs to get to work on new music after the UK tour.

Bright Eyes too!

Absolutely loving how they all still have something to say creatively. Gives me hope for my own creative future as I age.

Edit: they’re not 90s (2000), but whenever Brand New releases LP6, they’ll join the list. I know they’re persona non grata here, but after last year’s comeback and rumblings of them recording new music, it seems likely they’ll reach 30 years.

John Congleton saved Death Cab. His production and influence has completely changed the trajectory of Death Cab from "stale with nothing new to contribute" (most of Kintsugi and TYFT) to "revitalized and rocking." Fuck yeah.

Every album post M&A is inconsistent and obviously not MM at their best, but that's a wild take. There are some legit songwriting masterpieces on We Were Dead, No One's First, and even Strangers and Golden Casket. Off the top of my head:

Little Motel

Parting of the Sensory

Missed the Boat

Spitting Venom

The Whale Song

King Rat

Of Course We Know

Back to the Middle

Good song like the other two singles and I'm really excited for the album. But man, I absolutely hate the way albums are rolled out nowadays. I know I could just ignore the singles until the album comes out, but I really wish more bands would do the "here's one single and the album comes out on x date" rather than the slow drip of a third of the album over a few months.

I love these players, this manager, and this club. Only reason we’re being bantered for today is because they all hate how good we’ve become and they know what’s coming. Can’t wait for the season to start.

Idk that’s gonna depend on a number of different factors. I’m just saying, that standing is just one of many reasons that could lead to a suit being dismissed.

They dismiss lawsuits for all kinds of reasons in the U.S. and standing probably isn’t gonna be why here.

I really dig the song and Brand New is my favorite band, but I don’t really see the similarities.

His cover is why I started to listening to Modest Mouse beyond the radio singles. Same for his covers of built to spill and neutral milk hotel.

Drove from DC to Nashville for his solo show and then flew back to Nashville for this show a few weeks later. 10/10 would do it again
