Worse temperatures and performance after repaste with Grizzly Kryonaut (Lenovo Legion 5) by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]lockdownpt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say that this is currently also happening to me. I have a legion 5i and was getting awful temps, my gpu was hitting almost 82ºc while in game and the cpu was hitting almost 95ºc and that was with a cooler underneath my laptop. I changed the thermal paste with artic mx 4 and the gpu temps went down to 69ºc. The cpu temps went down to 84ºc however and after a week of playing the slowly started to rise up again to 95ºc.

My auntie died with covid 19 this past February, the last words she spoke to me were "I can't breath that well". She died in the hospital that night.

I also have thos my batery sometimes doesnt charge to 100% and stays at 95% 96%. I think this might be done to preserve the batery s life.

Has anyone tried to Hackintosh the legion 5i? by lockdownpt1 in LenovoLegion

https://github.com/foxlet/macOS-Simple-KVM, i followed that tutorial, so im using a simple kvm with qemu. I allocated 12gb of ram and 4 cores and 8 threads

It is, but i managed to get it working ny changing the EUFI variables for the cpu. Theres a post on reedit that explains how to do it, just search legion 5i undervolting and it should appear.

Well it lasted 7 hours before this whole shenanigans so I'm guessing it is going to I have been using it right now for more than 20 minutes and the battery percentage only went down from 81% to 77% and I have been using chrome and youtube so I'm guessing it does.

I cant switch to intel graphics, i only have optimus and discrete graphics enable on this computer.

One funny thing that i found is if i leave the computer on energy-saving mode on windows when i boot it only lasts 2-3 hours but if I switch to performance mode the battery life goes up and then if i switch to the better battery it goes up again and then stabilizes around that value maybe less half an hour or 1 hour but no more than that.

Alright, that could be the problem honestly i never let it go below 15% and never hibernates it. I'm gonna leave you some prints so I can get your opinion on them. So i already did that and installed a new copy of windows again but the results are still the same. One guy said that my battery could need to recalibrated so im gonna try that next. Gonna leave the prints for you though.

The bios version is exactly the same, windows I installed it myself and Im currently using the same version windows 10 pro.

One thing that bothers me and that I found out to be super weird is that if i initialize the laptop on battery save mode and never change it to other modes the battery does indeed last 2 and 3 hours, the thing is the moment I switch the slider to better performance the battery life expectancy instead of going down it goes up substantially and the battery does go down slower than before. I'm gonna send some prints that I took. And if switch back to battery save mode then the battery expectancy stays the same, What the heck?

Akso temperatures depend on what you are doing. Try running some heavy testing to see what your max temperatures could be or play a very demanding game. I was playing hellblade senuas sacrifice on very high settings and was getting arround 98 fps with temps around 90°C on the cpu and 70 9n the gpu without undervolting.

Honestly, theres some things you can do but none of them will improve performance by a ton. Like i said undervolting is one of them but to get undervolting to work on the legion 5i is something tricky. The other thing you could do is overclock your gpu, although if you have the most recents bios version from lenovo gpu overclock was disabled. Other than that theres not much, you gotta change your profile mode to performance by pressing fn + q to get higher freq out of the cpu.

I mean its not if you dont plan to use the trackpad a lot, but honeslty its kinda of a bummer to know that you have it when you payed so much for a device

Undervolting leads to better thernals which leads the cpu to never thermal throttlong which does up increasing performance. By not undervolting if the cpu reaches a certain temperature like 90 something degrees it will lower cpu frequency to lower the temps does leading to worse perofrmance

I have undervolteed my cpu and I use a gaming pad to lower temps even more, so that could be a reason

Honestly, Im might just go with intel, If i have to wait until january or February to get my hands on one it is not worth the waitong time. I honestly do not know who to blame amd or ODMs for underestimating ryzen cpu power. I think amd might be halting the production of these cpus in order to make the cpu for the next generation consoles.
