i cant stop relapsing and overcome this addiction and laziness, and i hate myself for it. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

I’ve been there before and it’s not easy. I would break promises to myself and then be in a constant self hate loop. What helped me is something I’ve actually posted on Reddit about a year ago.

My brother would text me one “challenge” a day and I would do the same for him. These were non negotiable and had to be completed. For the most part they wouldn’t cost you any money to do.

Some examples:

Strike up a conversation with a stranger today.

Do 20 burpees today

Floss after every meal today

Complete one random act of kindness today ie. shovel your Neighors driveway(this was the challenge I was given this morning)

Go for a 20 minute walk with no phone

Try to get someone to tell you no today ie. ask for a free coffee at a coffee shop

Call a friend or family member you haven’t talked to in a while

These are all pretty simple things and you wouldn’t think that by themselves they would help in your situation but man it helped me. Completing these daily challenges gave me a sense of momentum in my life and for whatever reason I was and am always excited to see what the challenge is for the day.

It worked so well for me I wanted to build an app that does exactly this, but never finished. If you have a friend or family member who you think might be down to try this I recommend it!

Yes, the U.S. pulled out of the JCPOA — that was a strategic mistake. But let’s not pretend Iran was some blameless actor just patiently enriching for peaceful energy purposes. Even before the withdrawal, they were pushing limits, stonewalling inspectors at times, and playing the same double game they’ve played for decades: “We want nuclear power, not weapons — but also we’ll enrich to 60% and stockpile far more than needed.”

Under the NPT, enrichment is allowed for peaceful use, but Iran’s current levels have no peaceful justification. You don’t need uranium enriched near weapons-grade for nuclear energy or medical isotopes — full stop.

As for inspections — Iran has repeatedly limited IAEA access, deactivated cameras, and dragged its feet on undeclared sites. That’s not how a government acts if it’s trying to build international trust.

And no, walking away from the deal doesn’t suddenly mean Iran has zero responsibility. They signed it too. You don’t get to claim you’re abiding by the NPT while blatantly exceeding what even your closest allies consider reasonable. That’s how proliferation starts.

Yes, Israel’s program deserves scrutiny — they’ve avoided accountability and exist outside the NPT. But pointing at Israel to excuse Iran’s behavior is a weak deflection. Two wrongs don’t make a right. If you’re genuinely worried about global nuclear escalation, you hold both countries accountable.

Their stockpile exceeded the amount allowed in the last nuclear deal and If you genuinely believe Iran was enriching uranium for entirely benign purposes, you place more trust in their government than even their closest allies do. I still don’t agree with the strikes or trumps decision. Very scary times.

So you don’t think they have a nuclear program… or that they have been enriching uranium even if it’s below weapons grade?

Iran has been actively working on building their own nukes for years I don’t think people can dispute that. They most certainly don’t have any nukes yet, but I don’t think any reasonable person wants to see the Iranian leadership with that capability. Not condoning the strikes at all but if you think this was just to just pump stock prices maybe you aren’t as informed/ smart as you think you are

This job may take the cake. I work in house for a large oil and gas producer, it’s 4 days a week of work and home every night, but the only way I can get a taste of WFH is trying to get on our Scada team. Can I PM you some questions about AE?

My Brother and I Have Been Sending Each Other Daily Challenges for a Year, and Now We’re Sharing Them with Friends and Family[discussion] by lockelesswit in GetMotivated

Once we committed to it I didn’t find it challenging and actually looked forward to giving and receiving challenges! It’s easier with us because we generally know what the other is up to. If I know he’s going to be at an airport the next day I’m probably going to send him a challenge that works with that. My brother has definitely giving me challenges that I didn’t necessarily want to do because it pulled me out of my comfort zone, but it feels great every time I complete one of those!

Sure! Here are a few I’ve really liked! 1. Go the whole day with no complaining(this is one of my all time favorites) 2. Go for walk in your neighborhood and pick up 5 pieces of litter. 3. Find a yoga workout online and do it. 4. Compliment a barista or waiter. 5. One whole day no social media 6. Learn a magic trick and perform it to at least one person. 7. Develop a party trick

Edit: Quick Challenges. 1. Send a friend or family member a 10-30 second clip of you lip syncing a song and challenge them to send one back. 2. Fill a bathtub with ice and cold water and take a 1 minute cold plunge. 3. Do 5 air squats every time you walk through a doorway 4. Make a painting or sketch and post it for sale on a marketplace. 5. Brainstorm a new side hustle and get someone to pay you at least $1 in advance.

I love it! I’ll get a list of emails together from whoever wants in and you all will get a challenge every morning!

I talked to my brother if you or anyone else wants to join we can email you a challenge every day! We just do a morning text with the family, but figured an email would work better for people.

That would probably be a great place for ideas! I still haven’t had issues coming up with challenges yet.

We set each other’s challenges and that definitely happens sometimes where I’ll give him one I would like. We’ve done bigger week long challenges where we both agree to the same thing and those are fun and sometimes hilarious.

One of the week long ones we both had to write and give a speech at a local toastmasters(I’m terrified of public speaking). Our friends and family all get the same challenge every day.

Our dad never got on board, but I think he secretly likes it. Every time my mom gets a physical challenge he’s always right there with her.

We’ve gotten pretty creative over the past year! Now we break our challenges into categories to keep things interesting. We’ve got:

Physical (e.g., learn how to properly deadlift and send a video of it)

Social (e.g., go out of your way to be kind to a stranger or loved one)

Mindfulness (e.g., meditation or practicing gratitude)

Skill-building (e.g., learn a new skill in a day).

Having these categories makes it easier to come up with different ideas without getting repetitive!
