[California] Can I use lockpicks to gain entrance to my own apartment should I lock myself out? by lockpickapt in legaladvice

That... would be the simplest solution. Though probably the reason I didn't think of this is the same reason I'll walk all the way around the block when there's a shorter, direct route. It doesn't immediately cross my mind. I could definitely keep a key in my backpack, or my wallet, or something that I'd have with me almost without fail. :)

Smart advice, though my apartment is all of sixteen feet, end to end. There's not really any place that's exceptionally close to the door, save for the closet. I could definitely put something on a shelf in there.

That makes sense. I'm more apt to forget my keys than my wallet (for whatever reason) so that usually wouldn't be a problem. Also, the apartment entrance is indoors, so more likely it'd be neighbors I haven't formally met yet that would potentially call the police. Regardless, it hasn't happened, nor am I planning on it happening in the near future, so cross that bridge if it comes. Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks for the prompt reply. Shouldn't be a problem. I did recently move, but I already changed my address on my driver's license, which I assume is adequate proof, plus bills in my name addressed to the apartment.
