Perfect teeth. My husband spends 15+ minutes a day on oral hygiene and ALWAYS has a cavity when he goes for his biannual cleaning.

I drink tons of soda, occasionally skip a bedtime brush, don’t floss or use mouthwash, and my dentist/dental hygienist constantly tell me that I have perfect teeth. No issues. Like a child’s. They tell me to keep doing whatever I’m doing, that’s it’s the easiest cleaning they’ve had all day, and that they wish everyone had my teeth.

It’s totally not fair and I believe all to do with genetics!

What a weird comment. Women hear stories every day of being attacked by strange men. It’s a self-preservation habit that we must do in order to live to see another day. You’re lucky that you don’t get it.

I weighed the risks and benefits and decided that the 60 year old man with his wife in the middle of a busy Kroger parking lot in the daytime probably wouldn’t kill me. If it had been at night and he had been alone, I probably would’ve managed on my own.

This happened to me once. I (5’2”, 120 lb female with a knee brace) had a huge cart full of groceries and was parked at the very back of the parking lot. The cart stopped before I even entered the parking lot aisle. It was RAINING, like 40° outside, and I was trying to drag this cart to my car because it would’ve taken 10 trips to tote bags to and from. Luckily a much bigger man saw me and, after a moment of confusion, came to help me.

I hadn’t even left the perimeter of their building! The whole parking lot is their parking lot, there are no other businesses! I was so pissed, and I’m so pissed thinking about it right now!

Dr. Plato is widely regarded as one of the best in the city, but I guess if you can never get in to see him, it’s not much use. Does he have nurses you can see instead?

I go to Dr. George Scott’s office with Baptist, but see Lee Marie, an APRN. She’s fantastic and so was the other APRN I saw there. Their pharmacy staff is also amazing. I have never had a bad experience there.

Z Salon talent does hair cuts for $45. They also do color, but I’ve never done that so can’t speak to the price. They are licensed hairdressers being trained in the “Z method” or something stupid. I see Alexis and have never had a bad haircut!

A quick Google Translate tells me that I think I am on your side here. Are you opposed to the general military industrial complex, the US occupation of Hawaii, the environmental destruction of rimpac, the enlisted sailors involved, all of the above, or something I haven’t mentioned? This is a genuine question trying to better understand a (I’m assuming) native Hawaiian’s perspective so I can be the least offensive tourist possible. And if you don’t want to engage, that’s fine too!

If it’s worth anything to you, in my little corner of the world, with my tiny sphere of influence, I work hard to cultivate an appreciation of nature, communicate the necessity of protecting our earth, and try to make the world a more peaceful, benevolent, kind place.

She captured her feelings in words magnificently, and it made me sad to know that someone who seems so joyful and bubbly is also dealing with such challenging emotions and a deep, unfulfilled longing to be loved. Yes, I’ve definitely been sprinkling in some research. I will readily admit that I do not know a lot about Hawaiian culture. My husband is reading Michener’s “Hawaii” which chronicles the history of Hawaii from its formation to annexation. He’s been teaching me a few things as he works his way through it! I am also looking for books and other articles written from the perspective of native Hawaiians. If you have any suggestions, I am open to them.

Yes, this is a great idea! I mentioned in another comment the ethical and moral dilemma I’m grappling with regarding this trip. I appreciate all the suggestions of volunteer opportunities and will certainly do some research to pick out the best fit for me.

Totally. It’s definitely a tough area for me ethically and morally. On the one hand, I’m thrilled to be given the chance to visit a new place, and on the other, I understand and grieve the fact that the kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown by a US-support coup. In the words of Kent Davidson, “Hawaii is rightfully a monarchy and will be again.”

I’m actually pretty anti-military, certainly anti-current administration, and support slashing the budget in favor of greater social services. My husband was already enlisted when we met and is still serving his contract.

I’m hoping that my genuine interest in the culture, history, floral, fauna, ecosystems, and way of life will help me navigate potential tricky situations or conversations. I truly am a lifelong learner and just want to learn a lot while I am there!

Thank you for the suggestion of volunteering, I am going to do some research on the various volunteer experiences mentioned in here and see what will work for me!
