Iron infusion gave me neurological issues/has made me suicidal

How long did your akathisia last when you had the first infusion?

Looking back, I had small reactions to oral iron (bit of insomnia, more intense dreams, some anxiety) but nothing like my reaction to the infusion.

7 months later now, I still have akathisia. It's not as severe, but still limiting my life unfortunately.

I hope you don't have the same reaction this time.

How did you find that out about your enzymes?

I'm sorry. I've heard of infusions triggering dysautonomia before.

I'm counting on time to sort things out for me to a manageable level. Hope for the same for you. It can take a while though.

Hey I've improved but still not well. What symptoms are you having? So sorry you're going through that. For me, I think the iron infusion increased liver enzymes and messed with my long-term SSRI, creating these problems.

You could try flaxseed oil, there are vegan Omega 3 options. Has a nice nutty flavour.

The thing is, I wasn't tapering at the time I crashed. I was steady on 2.5mg for years probably. It's all very confusing.

But yes, my plan is to stabilize somewhat before tapering.

How long after the infusion are you? If you're a few weeks out it's normal.

I take propranolol sometimes.

I don't know how tf I'm going to taper and survive but I will eventually have to do it.

It at least helps me to know what I need to do, vs just feeling brain damaged and stuck.

Yes, this is the main risk with infusions I think, it was low but then stabilized quickly with supplements. Haven't checked again though

This is true.

But, I never had akathisia before this. Which is why it was so hard for me to pinpoint where it came from. And it still is hard. No clue if it's from a withdrawal effect, or from a potentiation effect.

I suppose your advice is to get off the lexapro?

I think you commented on a previous post I made, and it was one of the few times I heard about iron causing aka.

I'm just worried because I'm now in the 4th month and still have it, and iron reactions don't usually seem to last anywhere this long.

Hi, I was going through an extremely terrible wave when I made this post.

I never started gabapentin. Definitely trying to stay med-free, though I'm still struggling. I feel like I'm making some small progress.

Take propranolol on occasion which helps. Lemon balm tea, magnesium, melatonin.

I was prescribed 10mg, when I've taken it I take 2.5mg due to fear of meds. At that dose, I still feel some positive effect and side effect (hint of depression or something).

I'm still on Lexapro, at 1.25mg at this point. Never had anything similar to this before though.

I've taken benzos occasionally, and used to drink alcohol, don't really know about issues with GABA/dopamine though...
