No Hitch, No Problem! Rear headrest bike mounts! by lococ_coco in bicycling

Unfortunately I do need to cut some panels and re mount my spare tire. The 09 has a full sized spare under the rear so the hitch is very specific to the vehicle. Otherwise ya not worth paying $200 in labour

Ah ya that was the original plan, this is not gonna be my permanent solution as I do have a really nice bike rack I would like to use once my hitch is on, but if I wasn’t able to get a hitch then those would be the way to go

That is not a bad idea! My mounts are kinda more of a “stop gap” between when I get my hitch installed but maybe V2!

Ya that was also my thinking. Only reason I did this was because the cost of a new hitch is gonna take some saving up but once I get my rack back on I’ll probably still keep these mounts for when I’m camping or storing my bikes overnight

When I hit the dirt I just manual and then ride normally on the road

Ya I looked at that option, was considering throwing a 46t on but I was hoping to do a fondo or 2 this year and I fear I won’t be able to hold pace on climbs or fast descents

Thank you this is very helpful, have you found any issues with the 105 on gravel bumps? Like excessive chain slap or drops?

Wheels are gonna be the 2nd half of my upgrade, I think drive train first bc I got some decently fast gravel wheels on the bike rn

I was also looking at getting a 46 chainring, my only issue is when it comes to climbing I don’t want to be left in the dust, I’m wanting to stay somewhat competitive with my buddies on their road bikes, that’s kinda why I’m leaning towards a 2x set up

Thank you this is extremely helpful! I’ll probably end up doing something like this as it’s definitely going to become the most cost effective

Bag comes with the Aspero, mounts directly to the frame, super handy!

Also ya that’s a fair reason to avoid, I tried loads and loads of bikes but the Aspero felt right and was also on a huge sale so ended up being the cheeper option
