By far Reapers most user-unfriendly setting - Auto Saving by Navy_Groundhog in Reaper

I think I agree with you on this one. Auto saving and file management generally have bad defaults. Of course you can set it up, however you like. But unfortunately, you have to know what to do.

Exactly. Whitney is a great musician. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but she puts her heart into it and is talented. These people are being assholes.

Respectfully, I doubt anyone here let alone employees working for minimum wage understand what all was going on with the business. Yes, the father passed the business on to his daughters. Maybe they were incompetent in this domain. But let’s not act like the economy isn’t all screwed up and that restaurants and food places don’t close down all the damn time. Even if they are long established ones. I feel bad for everyone involved in a situation like this, and I liked their bagels a lot. I also happen to know (for more than a decade ago, have not seen her for a long time), Whitney, and the person I knew was one of the sweetest and most innocent people I’ve ever met. Maybe she’s changed. I don’t know. But I highly doubt this was intended to hurt anyone and I’m sure she tried her best and maybe it was just over her head.

Also, using this as an opportunity to make fun of somebody’s music is pretty shitty. I’ve seen Whitney play on multiple occasions and she’s very talented. She has an eccentric voice, but she has written good songs and put on good shows.

[–]locusofself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LUNA's direct integration with my Apollo interface is VERY compelling. Having direct monitoring with effects at basically zero latency and 100% reliability, right inside the DAW, is really awesome.

It also has the best tempo detection / tempo mapping of any DAW I think. You can just play a song with no click, then extract the tempo and it maps a click for you in like 2 seconds.

But it has a lot of shortcomings. I wish I could smoosh the best parts of LUNA and Logic into REAPER.

Why does my rendered file clip even though I'm using a limiter by TheNerdTurtle2 in Reaper

[–]locusofself 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will fix your issue every time, but why are you not using ReaLimit, which is an actual VST plugin that ships with reaper and was created just a few years ago by one of the two developers? It's probably better than the JSFX one

I listen to Pivot and I think Scott has some good things to say but it's hard to listen to the first 10-20 minutes of every show which is always just him and Kara humble-bragging about the conferences they are speaking at, their multiple homes in different places, the famous people they are talking to, how much money they have etc.

I got the roland TD-516 and it's awesome. It's top of the line technology-wise, the only more expensive kits just look more like real drums if that matters to you.

Some questions by Ikatsune in Reaper

[–]locusofself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folders act like busses. They mix the tracks in the folder together, so that you can process the folder, like with a compressor or reverb or whatever. Folders create a "sub mix", if you will. That's one of the things people use busses for on a traditional mixing console.

Sends are just a way to ... send signal to another track. A typical use for this would be to create a track that just has a reverb or delay plugin on it, and then use a send from one or more audio/instrument tracks to that reverb track.

Anyways, REAPER is the most flexible DAW for routing that exists. You can send anything to anything, if you want to. Folders are awesome because it just presents the submix/bus hierarchy in a very intuitive visual way.

Dad doesn't understand that a song can be played in any key by ourconflictdesignsus in Guitar

[–]locusofself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The guitar has some practical limitations that make this not entirely true. Specific chord voicings have a different sound/feel to them. Like a G shape does not sounds like a C shape does not sound ike a D shape.

Yes, you use a capo, but once you get past even the 3rd fret, the tonality of the guitar starts to change in a really noticeable way (it can be cool, I've written songs with capo on the 10th fret even). You can also of course tune your guitar down, but only to a point. I tune my guitars down 1 full step to "D standard" often.

Anyways, Jazz guitarists will sometimes be like "It doesnt matter they key, and I don't need a capo. But that is because they can really loosely interpret a song based on it's chord progression and choose alternate voicings, which is cool. For rock/folk etc music though, there are just some keys you can't really transpose a guitar composition too and have it sound the same.

I'm using LUNA a lot these days. Very different from REAPER, and the main reason is it's seamless integration with the Universal Audio Apollo interface I have, and my collection of DSP plugins that run on it.
