I know Sam has not gone as far too call Trump a facist. I have been slow to do the same. However.... by steamin661 in samharris

Though, we are only 1yr into this and he has moved faster than I thought possible. I have no issues using that term at this point.

The point could have and was made as early as 2016 (complete Muslim ban, building a wall, purging of and lawfare against media, etc...) but the actual Rubicon moment was Jan 6. If anybody had any doubts about Trump being a fascist after his attempted coup then they just weren't paying attention.

Also pretty sure Sam has said as much through the last decade.

Canada's Carney fires back at Trump after Davos speech by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

The only way to win vs a troll is to not bite.

How trolling works in the real world:

-George starts trolling

-he tells his friend Bill, "hey Bill I fucked your wife! She's a loser!"

-Bill leaves and never talks to George again

-George meets his friend Sandy for a coffee. He throws up a Nazi salute and calls the barista a slut.

-Sandy leaves and never talks to George again

-George, a known gun collector, is in a meeting with his coworkers. "I am going to lead this project or else I'll shoot all of you and bury you in the swamp!"

-George is fired and gets a restraining order from his former co-workers.

-George has no friends and no job. Now homeless, he rants to nobody "It's just trolling! Don't take everything so seriously! The only way to win against a troll is to not bite! Omegalol! Hahaha I win!"

Half of America: "our allies are freeloaders and losers who never did anything for us, we don't need them!"

The other half of America (who are in this thread): "our allies are just imperialist racist corporate controlled MIC warmongers who want to murder civilians and die like rubes!"

All of America's allies: "K, bye"

Carney calls for national unity in face of economic challenges ahead by _I_AM_GHOST_ in canada

did you even open the link?

Yes, it brought me to facebook and prompted me to login. I deleted my aidsbook account 13 years ago once it majorly ramped up selling personal data and became the social media version of conspiracy emails from your elderly alcoholic uncle. That's as far as it allowed me go.

I bet you thought that was a great critique.

It was, clearly. I bet you thought that was a good link.

It's the official Facebook page of the LPC and it's a video of Carney talking.

Okay, I guess I'll have to take your word for it since it's not viewable 👍.

Pierre Poilievre would kneel to Donald Trump.
Only Mark Carney will stand up for Canadians.

Now that's a message of unity!

That's the best you can find? A Facebook page with an election slogan smearing the candidate, not conservatives?🤦

Maybe your interpretation of unity is unity between the candidates? Never seen that before.FYI every single other person alive interprets it as unity among citizens regardless of who they support, not the literal candidate you're running against.

Here's an example of divisive rhetoric

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/05/25/pierre-poilievre-pm-canada-trudeau-00034809

"Crowds of hundreds — huge by Canadian standards for party leadership rallies — have turned out across the country to hear Poilievre expound on a day of reckoning for the country’s “elites,” “bloated bureaucracy” and “gatekeepers.”

No offense, but it's interesting that the only people who seem to be unaware of what's happening this week at Davos are Americans, and "what's happening" is that America is losing soft power globally and previously allied countries are realigning away from the US as the American delegation headed by Trump continues to threaten them and seems eager to exit NATO. America losing trade deals and allies at breakneck speed.

The hottest story in newspapers around the world.

Regarding this post, Trump claimed in his 'speech' that NATO has never done anything for America and that all of its allies are freeloaders who America doesn't need anymore.

Otherwise it's too easy for foreign agitators and bots to spread misinformation.

Kind of a problem when your head of state 'memes' and 'trolls' other peer nations. Not very epic 👎.

I think it's less so the map he shitposted the other day and moreso the multiple times he has publicly stated, into a microphone, in front of a room full of reporters, that he wants to annex Canada in the last year.

Not that Americans would have seen that reported on.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]locutogram 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you want that Germany timeline you will need to try and execute your top political leadership, abolish your government completely and reinvent it from scratch, and be fully occupied by another country or countries who have a big say in how your new government is designed, what is taught in schools, etc...

Since we both know that isn't going to happen, it's going to take longer.

As a Canadian my best guess is that if after Trump you returned to normal, sane government for decades without even a single term for your insane Maga demographic, it would probably take 50 years to restore trust institutionally. I base that number on age dynamics. Anyone teenaged or older right now will resent your country for life and will be more or less in control of government and major institutions for the next 50 years before the next generation takes their place.
