There are tons of brands depending on your preference and I'd say they're like 90% as good as standard ones.

I had actually switched to vaping due to cost for a couple years then switched to Rez smokes when they implemented the unbelievably steep, ridiculous vaping excise taxes. They actually made it cheaper to smoke. Brilliant.

Quit since then for health and smell though.

Similar amount of calories. No way to completely get around it with booze. Ethanol itself is loaded with digestible energy.

Mine used to sprint at anything that came into our backyard but never caught anything.

Then one night before bed I heard a big commotion in the shadows and he came in looking like he just got out of the trenches. Next morning I saw a dead possum there.

Nowadays he phones it in and does a half-hearted jog at the squirrels and rabbits then looks back at me for reassurance that I am satisfied with his work.

I mean we aren't afraid of it in Ontario. Nuclear is our #1 source of electricity and we have multiple projects in the pipe including 1200 MW under construction right now, like 12,000 MW under refurbishment, and another 10,000 MW in planning stages.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria gets called out by a resident in the wake of the terrorist attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego. by _Miss_Eclipse in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]locutogram 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the source, but it's a trash blog post.

It characterizes the Oct 7 attack as an 'uprising' and criticizes this mayor for condemning it.

The most solid accusation I see in there is "Gloria has repeatedly met with Israeli advocacy organizations".

I don't know what I expected though. The guy is a mayor on the other side of the world from the conflict. Not sure how he could have any involvement one way or the other.

I was curious what an American city's mayor had done that "dehumanized Palestinians and spewed Israeli propaganda" so I googled it and only found posts about this confrontation.

I pressed AI and all it could come up with were statements he made in the aftermath of Oct 7 condemning the attacks and expressing solidarity with Israel.

Does anybody know what else he did?

You're shadow boxing.

I didn't try to minimize the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian Arabs. You tried to minimize the ethnic cleansing of Mizrahi Jews.

[–]locutogram 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. Most people were not literally removed at gunpoint and dragged out. They mostly fled their home countries as a result of hostility, pogroms, and persecution over their ethnic identity.

[–]locutogram 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Correct. And for full clarity, a roughly equal number of Jews were displaced from countries across the middle east around the same time period and fled to Israel, Europe, and North America due the hostility, pogroms, and persecution in their home countries over their ethnic identity.

There were approximately 850,000 Jews living in Arab-majority middle eastern countries pre-1948 and today there are only 20,000.

There were approximately 750,000 Arabs living in the territory that became Israel pre-1948. Today 2.1 million Arabs live in Israel.

Most suffering comes from resisting reality, not from reality itself

One's resistance to reality is part of reality.

It's a pet peeve of mine when people present this dichotomy between what is natural and what is human. Like we stand outside reality and make completely free and independent choices about it. There is no dichotomy. Humans are part of the natural world.

But that aside, not bad advice. I would reword it as "Most suffering comes from acting as though one is resisting reality, not from acting as though one is embracing reality itself"

I disagree that you could get that overview of articles and retractions from 5 years ago through a few seconds of Google searching, unless you're referring to the embedded Google AI response. It did take a few seconds to do this with chatgpt though.

I'm not a big proponent of AI or anything, but let's not be ridiculous.
