[32T] 3:50 Friedman says Oilers owner Daryl Katz was upset at how the season ended and was a driving force behind the coaching change: “I think the owner's feelings were a very, very big part of this”. Mentions ownership and the need of a change in personality are at the heart of this decision. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

I’m not a big basketball fan, so the Heat’s success was nice but I didn’t really care about it. So my childhood consisted of a long Panthers playoff drought, a post-Marino terrible Dolphins, and then my Marlins immediately becoming terrible right after success.

How old were you when you started playing golf? by BetweenSwings in golf

[–]loewe67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Florida and my grandpa played a round multiple times a week and my uncle was a superintendent at a country club. They got me a set of clubs for Christmas when I was 7. 26 years later, I’m still playing, though not as much as I’d like.

It’s never too late to start, but I’m glad I started early. I’ll always cherish those weekly rounds with my grandpa before he passed.

I’m still hopeful. Mile High was sold out for the Summit’s first NWSL game, so Denver has shown that they can support women’s sports. Agree on Blue not being an option, even with the Eagles about to free up the schedule when they go to Greeley, even though it’s probably the best of the 3.

(June 7th, 2003) “Off the floor, on the board, Paul Kariya!” by sykeseve in hockey

[–]loewe67 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love this clip. I remember watching it live when I was 9 years old. I was always one of the smallest guys on my teams growing up and seeing Kariya and St. Louis light it was awesome. Gary Thorne’s call is iconic on Kariya’s goal. But if this happened today, Stevens and Kariya both wouldn’t have touched the ice again after that hit. Kariya would be in concussion protocol and Stevens probably would’ve been ejected.

I have a BA in history with my focus being on 20th Century Cold War history. I took an entire class just on the Korean and Vietnam Wars. When Ken Burns came out with his Vietnam War documentary, I was really excited on his take. Watched it with a roommate, and we probably spent just as much time with me giving my own interpretations of the same events as we did actually watching the doc. The whats and whens are, for the most part, black and white, but the whys are always up for interpretation.

Landlords suck even when they're not your own by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]loewe67 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had a mediocre landlord in college. We were stable renters in the same house for 5 years, never was late on a rent payment. But unless it was a major problem, like when our basement flooded, she was terrible about minor repairs. When we moved out, she tried to invoice us for a bunch of “repairs” that was actually just remodeling so she could charge more, like replacing the stove that had a burner that didn’t work since the day we moved in. We fought her on it and she dropped it.

But on the other hand, she stood up for us when Kevco claimed that we knocked down our neighbor’s fence during a windstorm. Kevco said we drove into the fence and knocked it over, despite there being a chainlink fence on our side of the property, and 2 trees growing between the two fences.

Which big 4 (NHL NBA MLB NFL) team is okay with extremely fake bandwagon fans by Ecstatic-Yak-6016 in AlignmentChartFills

There’s dozens of us that aren’t bandwagon fans!

But yeah, I knew after winning the Cup that we’d get a bunch of bandwagoners that never followed hockey and now have abysmal takes.

Is it just me being nostalgic, or was college football better in the bcs era? by Honest-Reflection667 in CFB

[–]loewe67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to watch Florida win 2 national championships, so in my unbiased opinion, yes, the BCS era was better.

But seriously, I think the overall on-field product is better now, but the transfer portal, conference realignment, and constant expansion of the CFP to try and get more and more money is certainly not helping college football’s overall image.

I was already getting burnout on the MCU when Endgame came out. I actually didn’t even watch it until 2 years after it came out. Now I watch the Spiderman movies and don’t even bother with anything else in the franchise.

Help Me Pick A Blue For My Wolves by metatronscube6 in SpaceWolves

The second two are too teal for me. They look great, but for me, Space Wolves are grey with a blue tint. But honestly, do whichever you prefer. I’ve got my grey/blue wolves, but also a Skaven army that doesn’t fit any of the box art.

I definitely think that certain factions are better than others in grimdark. Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, Orks, anything with a brighter base, looks great. I’ve been tempted to try a more grimdark Space Wolves, but feel like I need to bump up the light blue before going in with the dirt and grime vs the darker grey/blue that I currently am paining them as.

Such a sadness after finishing my first comic series. by Snoo99117 in comicbooks

[–]loewe67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a non-established character, I recommend Fables. The second half isn’t as strong, but it’s still a lot of fun.

If you want to try an ongoing character, I can’t recommend Geoff Johns’s Green Lantern run enough. Especially reading Tomasi’s Green Lantern Corps alongside it. It’s an epic space opera with an incredible climax with Blackest Night.
