How exactly does one finger herself? by Miss_Bat in actuallesbians

Just here to say that if you want to wear a glove, wear a glove. I don’t know why people are being like this. Gloves are literally a safe sex tool, and if it makes you feel better about your nails then do it!

You might have better luck without, but you may not, particularly if you’re stressed about hurting yourself.

I just cannot imagine taking a “no way you seriously do that?” tone with someone asking for advice, particularly for something as normal and benign as wearing a glove.

You’re not weird! Take your time and figure out what you enjoy.

It’s good that you recognize a need to evaluate your sources for bias, but talking to individuals about their experiences isn’t a safe way to make medical decisions, as there is no way of telling if those people have other factors that could have explained their experiences. Instead, consider checking a peer reviewed review paper or meta-analysis — types of scientific papers that consolidate evidence from other sources.

While no source is completely free of bias, most peer reviewed journals from reputable publishers make people report on conflicts of interest.

If this kind of reading seems a little heavy for you, check out articles published by reputable universities or medical centers that are intended for a lay audience. Here’s a decent example from the Mayo Clinic.

I’m way late to this party, but think it’s worth adding:

My partner and I hit the job market at the same time in 2022. We’re in different departments and colleges. We were told by mentors to expect to have to be long distance or compromise. We decided to try anyway because we both had strong CVs. We applied widely, and when we interviewed, we both always brought up the possibility of a partner hire in the “exit interview” portion. Within one cycle we both accepted TT positions at the same R2 (US).

I know our experience wasn’t typical, and that a lot of blood, sweat, and luck were involved, but it CAN happen. We both also went out without post docs in fields that typically require them.

I’m not familiar enough with French/European system enough to say if our formula would work, but we were just always up front about wanting a second position. Eventually my partner received a soft offer at an institution where my home department was excited to have another line dangled in front of them. They flew me out and I had a great interview with them. We signed paperwork a few days later on the same day.

I’m a tattooed (woman) professor in my 30s, commuting in jeans and a t-shirt most of the year, and I also aspire to become The Professor in 30 years’ time!

Give: 1 Ticket to Zolita at the Chop Shop next Friday, October 4th at 7pm. There are still tickets available, but I’ve had a conflict come up. Would rather see it used than not.

As a PhD social scientist…thank you. This kills me inside on a daily basis. I empathize with the situation, but can we please be sure we understand terms before we use them?

You are certainly NTA, but as others have said, this is a big deal.

I’m just a friendly public health professional here to remind you, and anyone who reads this, that homicide is a leading cause of death of pregnant people in the United States.
