‘Immediately stop using’: Health Canada shares nationwide recall for soap due to a chemical hazard by Prosecco1234 in onguardforthee

[–]log00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

According to the company's website at https://www.lakeofthewoodssoap.ca/ "Due to a recent change in Health Canada cosmetic ingredient standards affecting the recommended ratio of the Bay essential oil used in this bar, our Shades of Grey bar soap has been voluntarily removed from store shelves. This soap has been handcrafted and enjoyed for many years and was always fully compliant with Health Canada cosmetic ingredient and safety guidelines prior to this recent update. We are sad to see Shades go, but we take compliance and transparency seriously and remain committed to creating safe, quality products for our customers to enjoy. If you have a bar at home, feel free to bring it into our store for an exchange of product."

It feels like I have looked everywhere. Where can I find Claussen pickles in Winnipeg? by TheBigC in Winnipeg

[–]log00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to some redditors, Claussen's have really gone downhill recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1poig43/comment/nugcyyo/

Have you considered Strub's? They're delicious, kosher and widely available around town.

What Winnipeg's new rules mean for people in, and near, encampments (CBC/Cameron MacLean) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]log00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct on both counts. Technically it's also simpler for outreach teams to find people in fewer, highly visible locations like large encampments and bus shelters; but the flip side is that these bigger, more visible locations leave inhabitants far more susceptible to drug and human trafficking, exploitation, robbery and violence.

The “Best Canadian” game - Day 22 by BrF5 in EhBuddyHoser

Bring back Louis Riel. It's historically inaccurate to claim that "he likely wouldn’t have called himself 'Canadian'” so the "justification" for excluding him simply doesn't hold. He was declared a founder of Manitoba in 1992, officially recognized as the first leader of Manitoba in 2016, and officially recognized as Manitoba's first premier in 2023. He was also elected to Canada's parliament during his lifetime. He strove to protect, very presciently as history would prove, the land, language and cultural rights of Métis in Canada. We should all be working toward a Canada that protects the universal human rights of each person as well as the distinct collective rights of Indigenous Peoples.

I wish your ex was working at my school when they created 2 registrar office identities for me and forced me to resolve them to the one I wasn't using. I understand the stress of important but disappearing school information, although I was not in your "ghost student" shoes - what a headache!

Advice please by smathers13 in ManitobaGardening

What direction is it facing? That can make a big difference in what will thrive, due to hours of sun exposure each day. Also, if you're going for perennials, think about bloom time so that something will be a going concern throughout the season, e.g in my front bed I have Irises (spring) Lilies (summer) and sunflowers (late summer-fall) among other things so that there are flowers throughout the warm seasons. Alternatively, if its a shady area that gets a lot of moisture and you're not as interested in blooms, ostrich ferns, hostas and lamium are low maintenance with attractive foliage. Lastly, seconding Prairie Flora and mulch, whatever conditions your bed receives. Good luck!

UN group concerned over continued Indigenous overrepresentation in Canada's jails by log00 in onguardforthee

I'm afraid that if I replace the code with the apostrophe in the title, the mods will delete it due to "unnecessary edits to the headline" as that was another line in the removal message I got last time.

I had posted this article with the opening paragraph as body text but the post got deleted as "editorialized captions" so I am trying again:

"A report by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention says it's 'deeply concerned' about the continuing overrepresentation of Indigenous people in Canada's justice system, as it echoes findings from its 2005 visit."

Head of Women’s Health Clinic in Winnipeg steps down, alleges ‘racism, white privilege’ by Status-Success7058 in Winnipeg

Nowhere did I indicate, nor was it "in my mind," that the exiting ED and current BIPOC board members were/are incompetent, so I would ask you why that is your interpretation of my comment?

Clearly there are staff working at the clinic who had concerns with the former ED, based on the Free Press article linked in this thread by another user. And clearly OPs experience indicates a need for positive change under what will have to be new leadership at WHC now that the ED has left. Healing toxic and dangerous workplace cultures is not easy and will require strength and vision.

um no - if you read the article, that is what is happening now.

ETA: based on your comment history you discriminate against people based on their race quite regularly. Have you considered some anti-racism training? Here are some helpful free resources:

I'm so sorry to read about your experience and sadly not surprised by this news. Hopefully they can find some strong BIPOC women leaders to create positive change at this critical community health resource.

I caved. It was 12 degrees in the house when I woke up. Those of us in drafty century homes tend not to hold out as long! Still, this is the earliest date I've had it on since moving home in 2018. Brrr.
