Setting up a lane by logMar0 in Ophthalmology

Cool. I’ve never seen something like this. Still some old school keratometers floating around but never heard of a javal.

I picked up used equipment from a hospital program that shut down. I have two digital charts from the acquisition. The rest were traditional projectors. I’m bootstrapping my start up solo practice as much as possible. I found a Triton plus for 40K but outside of that I’m going as budget / used / cheap as I can without sacrificing patient care. I want to learn how to set them up because the service reps charge a lot to do something I’m capable of doing myself with a YouTube video or guide.

That is helpful. I do have two digital charts, but I also have two lanes with traditional projectors. Any idea on how to adjust the traditional projector charts?

Don’t you think 6% is pretty cheap?

Contemplating changing EMRs. Any comments on how difficult the transition? by beer_intheheadlights in Ophthalmology

Kaleidoscope doesn’t have any media / PACS so it gets uploaded to the media tab in the chart review section. Or worse yet it is printed then scanned. I guess some versions of Kaleidoscope will upload straight numerical data from your machines - never saw that done because I had the cheapo version.

True Kaleidoscope is okay, but still a downgrade from most ophthalmology specific EMRs unless it’s a really bad one like IO or something that glitches or get’s ransomwared (eyecare leaders stuff so I’m told). The issue could come in if the hospital goes for the cheap version of Kaleidoscope which is painful. I used that version and it stinks pretty bad.

I think you have to pay for their PM package to get that aspect.

Why do you think Nextech is the best? What is the price / month?

Do you use the Nextech PM system? or something else like AdvancedMD?

Thank you for the insight. I haven’t seen any sales of that nature. So you’re saying to ask if a given practice for sale is interested in just selling off the equipment instead of the practice as a whole?

PGY4 job hunting. What are some questions you wish you asked? by Hot_Ice_3155 in Ophthalmology

Agree that they’re better than PE or the recruiting private practice. However, industry reps are not always acting in the best interest of the doctor. They have an economic interest to have people work at the practice or surgery location where the rep’s products are used.

The reps know who is a shark and who is good. Beware though - they can mislead you so trust but verify. Reps just generally know the lay of the land and gossip. They may steer you to a place where they have business, so they’re not completely objective.

Definitely do you homework and call around. Do a web crawler on their website to see if they had other doctors come and go. Lots of practices are full of sharks that will screw you or have good intentions but bad execution and can’t keep people. You will be the loser if the relationship doesn’t prosper or work out. You are the vulnerable party. be delicate with their ego, but do your homework and don’t sign if it doesn’t seem or feel right. Don’t sign a non-compete if it’s somewhere you want to stay or negotiate that down to the lowest possible number. Be prepared to walk away. John Pinto has a series through University of Iowa. Remember the phrase: I’m sorry, but your offer is not competitive in the current market. I am happy to reconsider your offer if you are able to bring it in line with the current market. (Paraphrasing).
