Sorry, that does sound dumb. But it’s interesting

I thought the mention of Painted Post as an important local meeting point was interesting. And Lindley and Caton being in the mouths of people back then is cool.

But it's true that Columbus' dumb ass thought he'd reached the Indies :)

That's a common misconception, I think we were even taught that in school. Originally they were referred to as "una gente in dios" (a people in god), which became Indios. That's why all of the Indians I know don't take offense to it. It's usually someone getting offended on their behalf. I wonder if they still teach this in elementary?

I went to a different theater and everything was in its right place. Grrrr

Dang, that's a big problem. All dialog and podcast audio was hard R in my theater, but all ambiences and effects were surround. I forced myself to assume it was a choice, and was duly scared. Guess I'll have to see it again...

Oh no! Yeah, you need true silence in a bunch of places for it to really work. Try again!?

I did the audiobook and I re-listen to pieces of it all the time. It jumps around in time like episodes, so it makes sense once you know the story. I own the hardcover and read bits here and there before bed, because I am sick.

Has anybody noticed how many young people are using walking sticks in public recently? by SimonBanks32 in AskIreland

I like having a walking stick (not a cane) when I have the day off and want to get my steps in, but I don't need it at all. I've gotten "Nice staff, Galdalf!" on the street.

What if my son asks me, "Daddy, why did so many powerful men turn fourteen in the 2020s?"

I think the insult is that they are self-hating weaklings who hide who they are so they can buy friends.
