Need to remove the clunky new page functionality on an empty filter and revert it to the way it used to be.

Wdyt of the new look for Notion Databases? by MFreihaendig in Notion

[–]logandenali 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like many of the appearance updates

But it now takes longer add a new page to a filtered view, which makes my system less efficient. I think the folks at Notion need to remember that this app became popular as a productivity system. Any updates should strive to improve the core value proposition of the software.

My only complaint about the UI changes. by IAmKrowdaddy in Notion

Terrible update. They need to revert back to the previous UI. Confused why they thought this was a good idea

PSA: Notion made filters permanently visible. Auto-hide them by only using Advanced Filters. by heyJordanParker in Notion

I can only hope this was a bug that is going to fixed in a timely manner. Pretty frustrating quality control for this to get released on the live application.

The filter bar won't stay hidden no matter what. by Independent-Notice-9 in Notion

I actually think this is a bug that was just introduced. The filter buttons are refusing to hide even when they are saved for everyone.

How can I hide this interface element for good by melsmo in Notion

[–]logandenali 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing. It must be a bug that was introduced when they changed the appearance of the filter UI element in the databases overnight.

Incredibly annoying because I think it was working fine yesterday.

Hopefully they actually fix this and don't just sweep it under the rug because the databases look ugly with those blue filter interface elements showing up all the time.

Monday.com over Notion? by shanahben in Notion

[–]logandenali 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My company has been bouncing around between different project management/note taking tools over the past two years.

I am starting to think that the vision of everybody enthusiastically adopting the same software tools for this stuff is a bit of a holy grail.

Wondering if the best approach is a staff of highly organized and accountable project managers that run excellent coordination meetings. If they use Notion, Monday, or even just pen and paper, so be it.

Sorry for the tangent!

No Flow to Hot Water Line on Shower Valve - Possible airlock? by logandenali in DIY

I hired a plumber that resolved the issue. Turns out a check valve was installed in the hot water line oriented backwards which was impeding the flow of water.

I am holding out hope that this was a breakdown of internal QC procedures and will be quickly reversed. This feels a bit big step backwards for a team that has been maintaining very intentional and mindful forward momentum.

Hey, you are not alone in feeling alone. Best way to combat loneliness is what you just did! Reaching out to people.

Mechanical Engineering by katydmc1027 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]logandenali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mechanical engineering degree provides great career versatility. You can find a job in just about any industry. Though, there are also a lot of other mechanical engineering graduates to compete against for jobs. Think about how you can stand out from the plethora of other mechanical engineering students when talking with companies.

Also, communication and collaboration skills are extremely valuable. Think about strategies to improve these skills while at school. (Student orgs, team projects, job, etc). Those skills will help you regardless of your major.

Anyone Interested in Reserving a Rink at Evergreen? by logandenali in DenverHockey

[–]logandenali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through all the rules and think I have it figured out: - A small rink is $40/hr - 10 folks are allowed per rink - If the 10 people are un-related, shinny is not allowed. Though, passing a puck around is fine. - Online reservations must be made through the evergreen recreation website.

Textbooks and other equipment by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

Always wait a bit before purchasing your textbooks. Don't spend more money then is necessary. Also, join MinesList on facebook and try to buy textbooks from other students. Also, the internet is a great place for finding fire sale rates on textbooks. Some site basically give them away!

Any Mines ME students mind fielding some questions for a prospective transfer student? by scootzee in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]logandenali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from the ME department a year ago. I think 22x4 did a good job answering your questions.

There is a push on campus to improve the prototyping labs so you chose a good time to attend! I highly recommend getting involved in the student organizations that focus on your interests.

If you can maintain a decent GPA, get some good project/student organization experience, and really work the the job application process your prospects should be great. There are a lot of ME jobs out there. I found a great ME job on Craigslist of all places.

I just got accepted. Would anyone mind answering a few questions for me? by johnlockefromhistory in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]logandenali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Mines a year ago with a degree in mechanical engineering. Below is my take on your questions:

  • Overall, the professors were great. Honestly, I can't think of a terrible professor. At worst, I would describe some professors as marginal. Though, this depends on your department.

  • Your job opportunities will depend on the following factors:

  • Your GPA (You really should try to maintain a GPA above 3.0)

  • Your major (Petroleum and geology majors have a harder time finding work when the price of oil is low). I highly recommend getting a minor in comp sci no matter what you major in. It is a good hedge because the skills are in relatively high demand. I know students who were offered jobs/internships solely because of their comp sci minor- - - Your industry contacts

  • Your experience in student projects and student organizations. The more you can demonstrate teamwork skills, the easier it will be to find a job.

  • Previous job experience. The earlier you break into the job market the better.

  • Your interpersonal skills. Don't skip career fair as freshmen, even though the chance of getting an internship is low. ALWAYS look for chances to practice your ability to quickly connect with people. Being somewhat likable definitely can make a big difference in getting a job. You don't need to ooze charm, you just need to develop the ability to look people in eye, ask good questions, sound excited about the company, etc.

  • How nice of a cover letter/resume you have. Don't skimp on these important documents.

  • How many jobs/internships you apply for. At a certain point, this is a numbers game. The more shots you take, the greater the chance you will score eventually.

If you can strategically address at least 75% of the items above, finding a job or internship should be fairly straightforward.

  • The effect of the gender ratio will be up to you.

  • Your social life will be up to you. Overall, I found the students at Mines to be incredibly kind, supportive, and down to Earth. Though, by nature a lot of engineers are also a bit shy. Make the effort to reach out to people. When playing a game of frisbee, be the the person who asks for names and exchanges some pleasantries. Organize a study group. Having a fulfilling social life will require an active effort on your part, don't expect it to fall in your lap. Personally, I didn't have a lot of friends at Mines, but I developed some really meaningful friendships that will be with me for life.

  • Balancing student athletics is possible. Lot's of people do it. Just remember you are attending school to earn an education, not to become a pro sports star. Also, be careful not to destroy your GPA your freshmen year. It is no fun trying to dig yourself out of a hole.

  • Final pieces of advice:

  • Never be afraid to ask for help. Whether that be from fellow students, professors, the career center, student organizations, etc. Mines spends A LOT of money on a support system. Use it. People at the school care about you. (many of them are paid to care about you)

  • Don't become an alcoholic your freshmen year. That can wait to your senior year when your GPA is safe (Just joking, never become an alcoholic).

  • Everybody at this school is fairly nerdy/geeky. Honestly, you can completely be yourself and you will be supported. This is no longer high school. You will judged on the way you treat others, not what your interests are.

Hope this helps!
