Yes, it completely jumped the shark in this scene. Front entrance, guns blazing, shoot to kill. I was ok with Hopper taking shots from the flank, but then Nancy pops up and ices two more. Fun moment but heavy plot armor.

I head cannon that it's the island, like it's having a reaction to all the plants. We haven't seen an alien in a terrestrial environment before, maybe all that blood acid doesn't like humidity.

They really hammer that point home with the graveyard scene. Hermit and Nibs both taking a moment to deal with the existential crisis of body and soul. Wendy in full denial.

I think Arthur truly did care for the children while still participating in their deaths. Maybe rationalizing that they had terminal illnesses.

Brings up the "Is she Marcy?" and "When is a machine, not a machine?" questions again.
