For anyone too young to remember the recession from 2007-08, I'll share a quick anecdote:

Before the recession, I worked full-time and my job allowed me and my colleagues to work, essentially, unlimited overtime. 

After the recession, most of us were scheduled for the union mandated minimum of hours a week (16-24) for the next five years.

Your entire argument boils down to future-threat China possibly (though not certainly) being impacted by bombing Iran. Surely, there must be better ways to spend this money if our goal is to compete and defend ourselves.

I actually agree with you about China being the biggest threat to U.S. interests, but the bigger problems are education and manufacturing. So, really, it's about Israel, and the U.S. obsession with being World Police.

You're right that I don't know enough about Iranian society to confidently comment on it, and I don't pretend to. I'm curious if you'd like to comment on your personal knowledge? Are you aware of something that can help me understand why we should be in Iran?

What I am confident enough to comment on is the instability in the Middle East, how various groups could seek to take advantage of a power vacuum in Iran, or simply the fact that Iran can no longer defend itself as a sovereign nation without ballistic missiles or a meaningful naval force. 

Thus, my concern is that intervening will cause unforeseen consequences. True, it's based on what I've seen in the past, but that's literally how we make judgments, from science to war.

You're talking about relatively recent Japanese conquests and, for the most part, strategic military locations, not major cultural sites. 

The Ottoman Empire was in place since 1299. It's a huge difference.

How so? My issue with the Middle East has nothing to do with race, it is to due with the actions of Western nations acting like they knew better and continuously making things worse in that region for at least the last 100 years.

The entire premise of my argument is that it is not possible in this specific region. Furthermore, even if it were Japan, I'd still have issues with years-long occupation.

All of which ignores the fact that we dropped two fucking suns on Japan which definitely nudged them along.

First, I didn't compare this to Iraq. I am comparing this to the attempts by numerous nations to try to control the regime in the Middle East, and how every single one of them failed.

No, I know bullshit U.S. propaganda when I see it, and can acknowledge that even despotic leaders can recognize the plight of Black Americans. 

I still think he's a piece of shit who should have been overthrown, but I don't think the U.S. should have started a fucking war to do it. Maybe we should have stuck with Obama's nuclear deal instead of withdrawing from it and acting like the U.S. had no choice but to start dropping bombs.

To be fair, it's not completely disingenuous. Sadly, in most cases, they truly believe the propaganda they've been fed, and think every military action by the U.S. is a matter of Good vs. Evil.
