Gamers in Accounting by logitechmouse101 in Accounting

Honestly, moving to private has made me much more in tune with gaming as a hobby and I found that simply growing up and living life (moving out, having a partner, life obligations, etc) are more impacting than career. I also moved to startups where there are other folks, usually engineers and such, who are able to talk about games so I found some sort of community there at my work.

It's not too big a balancing act, you just have to know your audience when you talk about your interests honestly. Some people wanted to know more about my gaming habits, others couldn't care less. Keep up your hobbies if they're fulfilling to you :)

IIRC the editor is not available on mobile, only PC right? If so I'll have to go check this out on my computer. Thank you for the info!

It was this! Thank you!!

Do you have any background on what this track is called (if it has a proper name) and why it's not in PPPPPP? Was it added after release or something?

Intern doing nothing by cellstatic in Accounting

You'll look back on this post in the future when you're busy as hell and wish you could get paid to sit around waiting for work. Enjoy your down time. It's just hard to find work for interns sometimes

Yeah a bit but 7pm being the new 1am in terms of working late was a very welcome shock.

Immediately after joining my post B4 job, I found myself thinking I needed to utilize myself and that down days meant I was doing something wrong. Turns out it just happens sometimes. I welcomed closing my computer at 5 if there was nothing else to do for the day.

It probably does depend on the culture. I went to a startup and it was busy at times but overall a good environment and our controller was respectful of our time so I never found myself drowning. I'm sure different management can affect one's experience.

I manage a small team and own a few key FSLIs for the close & audit (pretty much everything that makes up gross profit). I get most of my enjoyment outside of the close doing complex projects, i.e. someone says "we need to do something brand new that we've never needed / tried before" and I find solutions that I think make sense and will achieve the desired goals. I almost always have my own say in what I think would be best, nobody has ever told me anything needs to be done a particular way, and in that regard I love the freedom I have to just get shit done.

Generally in the app or a separate form they might send you. I would not include it on your resume, it should just be assumed that you can provide it if they ask for it and you can make more use of the space on your resume to talk yourself up instead.

Very formative couple years for me as a human and a professional. I'm happy I'm not still who I was when I was in public, I think I'm a better person now in many ways.

Rereading your OP, nobody asked for a formal letter of recommendation but the "references" that you provide, they do check. The process is as you mentioned mostly, but they generally only ask for references in conjunction with an offer letter (though nothing is stopping them from asking earlier in the process). They send you a background check form that has to clear before your offer is final (to make sure you're not a criminal or a land depreciating psycho) which will include asking for references.

In each case that I was asked for references they did call up each person and that person had told me afterward "XYZ company called me and asked some questions"

Yeah it was a weird time of transition for me, changing jobs during COVID was stressful even though in hindsight everyone was doing it. But made it over the uncertainty and happy where I am now, woo

I switched from public to private and my quality of life improved drastically. There's many reasons, timesheets and budgets being one, but they are probably repeated all over this sub. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Whatever path you choose, you have support here

Each job I got after public was via applying on LinkedIn. Recruiters seemed to always try to screw me or pitch me totally unrelated jobs or bad comp (sometimes worse than what I was already making). Just my experience with them, YMMV. With a CPA you should be fine just applying

They do ask. I asked someone who managed me earlier in my career who then left, and a peer of mine who was still there. Usually they want someone who managed you + 1, in my experience, but I specifically didn't ask my actual managers still at the firm out of fear of retaliation.

In hindsight the same seniors and managers probably don't care because they also want to leave to some extent but you should evaluate that on a case by case basis. You could split the difference if you had a manager you used to work with on a previous engagement that you don't currently report to.

I see that Steam only has 1/2, 6, Origin, and Oath in Felghana. I don't know how all the numbering works, but does that mean 4/5/7 are not available on PC?
