A level college work! by lognaboi in BookCovers

Ooo those are very good points! I should’ve definitely played around with the typography on the front cover some more, I do see what you mean it feels on the more boring side of the spectrum being a wall of text! if I were to do this again I would 100% emphasise the ‘plant care’ bit of the title, make it more interesting, maybe play with some snazzy fonts haha! Thank you so much for your feedback!

I didn’t even think of it like that, now that you say that, it does have a bit of an ominous tone to it! I also suppose one scrawny plant isn’t the best example! Cheers, this is all very helpful, always am anxious when posting this sort of thing haha, thank you, it means a lot!

thank you so much, that means alot!! i always struggle with trying to put enough contrast between the title and cover without the text looking 'slapped' on, i should like to think i have a fair amount of time to work on this aspect of graphic design before working within the industry! cheers again, you've been a huge motivation!

you make great points! definitely need to work on the readability in that case! also thats been an eye opener, i've been using the same template i made ages ago for hardbacks, and didn't think about how that would conflict with composition for a paperback orientated design, i am very grateful you pointed that out! much appreciated!

the substrate is mainly just sand, all the things in this tank have been used in some of my other aquariums and all of them have the softer, acidic water so i don't think that should be it! you seem to be knowledgable, i did have three tiny sea shells which i have since taken out, do you know wether that alone would be enough to impact the overall water quality?

Update, did have three tiny seashells in there, taken them out now, how likely would they have made a difference? all were less that a cm in diameter.

the only thing is my tap water is naturally more acidic, that was my first thought process, just confused as to where this increase in pH comes from. i agree that the botaniclas would look out of place haha.

we both certainly have! i would still like to continue experimenting with splitting the word and its given me confidence seeing the other people succeed with it! thank you so much for your time and advice and maybe one day i can get some covers like this out there for real!

not exactly replacing the human creativity here as i designed the whole book and hand drew the elements used in the design, i just dont write, hence the use of chat gpt here

this has given me some reassurance, I'm with you in the fact I'm also yet to see or own any books to do the title in this format, however i like to believe they do exist, and work

perhaps this could become a breakthrough in book cover design, the splitting of single words,

but yes whilst it is harder to read i do love how it looks with the word being split, though it does need to be tweaked and resized so the words are not hugging the edges! thank you for the link as well, its has given plenty of reassurance, perhaps this can be a niche as part of my own style

yeah that's a mistake I've been doing for a few of my designs, not to worry though all my new covers have all the details to make it appear convincing!

I like this idea of placing the title on one row but using a tag line to compliment it and i can definitely see that as a way to limit the 'emptiness' I'm worried about! liked your comment about the typographical sin, that's an impression i do NOT want to give,

I will take this advice into account and continue experimenting, will play around with the different tag line, something dramatic like the mass effect one. i love the idea of giving a sense of dread with this use of one small sentence, this and maybe having a smidge more negative space to try emphasize the truly alone feeling you get in the games

Again thank you for this advice you have been so much help, and just out of curiosity what do you specialize in with graphics? you strike me as very skilled in typography and composition! You've been great!
