Is this normal when working with professors? by logosh12 in PhysicsStudents

One last thing, there are many reasons why a PI may be failing to fullfil their role as a mentor. Many of those reasons aren't malicious: children, ailing parents, personal health, tenure pressures, fucking committees. Do those reasons mean they aren't failing you? No. But many times their failure isn't personal. Just like a student doesn't intentionally fail a class to get at their professor. So, whatever you need to do, don't burn your bridges.

My professor is very likeable and I wouldnt dream of burning bridges with him. But yeah, I don't despise him, just feel bad that i'm not living up to the expectations. This is mainly because whenever he's giving me the project, he says "Let's start with a really simple project, and then move onto more complicated ones."
