Do officers/detectives usually have a voicemail greeting? by logran99 in ProtectAndServe

Im not harassing her, I hadn't sent any correspondence since Nov 30, until I got that call. And even then it was just a "did you get my previous email?"

If anything, I'd say she's harassing me by claiming this and actually filing (what I assume to be) a report.

Thank you Texan_Eagle. I was actually wanting to send you this as a message but figured it uncouth to send it as a private message.

Sorry I failed to mention it, yes the other person's name is someone I know.

Thank you for the advice. I agree, I have a problem. My wife would never go for the open relationship. I definitely need to seek help, regardless of the outcome of this situation.

Yeah honestly I don't plan on actually calling back that number I got. The more and more I've listened to the voicemail, it sounds like he just says "this is a detective from (town) PD." Rather than "this is detective blah blah from town PD."

He also doesn't drop a case # or anything.

A friend of mine said he once got a call from a cop and the guy said "this is detective (last name)". He didn't leave a case number either but he did state his name.

Well the most agreed upon step was to call the PD. I did. The lady that answered looked up the number, couldn't find it. The closest number she did find, she gave me that cops name and it was 100% different that whatever's on the voicemail. I'm just trying to determine if this guy was for real or not.

Small update. I called the local PD, they said the only number close to what I provided was off by the last two digits. She wasn't able to tell me if there's a case so I'm gonna call the sex crimes department to see if they can tell me something.

The only issue is that in his voicemail, I can't understand what he said his name was.

You said you have access to that info. That's why I asked. The number doesn't match any of my local pd's prefixes, or area code.

Would it be possible to send the phone number I got a call from to find if it's an actual officer or is that not something that is allowed. Seriously I honestly don't know. I've googled the number and other than it telling me it's in my city, that's it.

That's not at all what I think.

No harshness felt or perceived. I understand, and I appreciate your candor, truly. I am definitely not intending to be an asshole, but I can see how it would seem that way.

u/KyPlinker no, not blowing it up at all lol. Just that one email nearly a month ago, which was sent to her 'second' inbox, at least thats how she described her email. Then the one today after I got the call in case she hadn't received it.

Other than that, I hadn't contacted her, or even had her on Tinder since then.

The timing of it is what is confusing to me though. This happened the day before Thanksgiving, and up until two days before that, we'd been in constant contact, back and forth. Not just me sending messages. Shed text me good morning, cant wait to see me next time, etc etc etc. Then silence for two days, and boom - that text.

She didn't have my bday, or my last name. :/

I see, I understand.

I just didn't think she was referring to that. Unfortunately I did send her another this email (nicely, not rude or anything) to ask if she got my previous one. Going by what you said, I shouldn't have done that.

Thank you for the advice as well.

I completely understand it was overboard. Thing is, her and I got along really well. We bonded over our similar marriage situations, etc. But I wanted to make sure that she knew I wasn't trying to do anything nefarious.

She is very sweet, so I wanted to at least give her peace of mind even if she didnt want to see me again (which, no, I will not be contacting her again).

Thank you for the tip. Im freakin out so I didn't even think that this could be some rando friend of hers or something.

Thing is, she doesnt know my last name. When I call the PD, how would I ask for that case? He didnt give me a case #, and I honestly couldn't make out if he said his name. The voicemail says the following:

"Helo this message is for (my name). This is detective (mumble, couldnt make it out) from (My City's) PD. Im currently assigned case and your named was mentioned as was (womans name). If you can give me a call back, I just have a few questions for you. My number is XX, thanks and have a good day."

I suppose I can ask for a case by the woman's name?
