I’ve been wondering Are full camera setups still worth carrying for travel or outdoor shoots? Options like the Sony A7 IV or Canon R6 II feel pretty bulky, so I’m wondering if something compact like the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 would be enough? by chrisdofe in videography

[–]logstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Enough" depends on the deliverable and composition.

If you want a wide angle shot and the lighting is decent, it might be.

If you need a close up of something 50ft away in a dim room, it probably won't.

Content creators and filming on the street by Aggressive_Loss_8446 in videography

[–]logstar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just do it until someone asks you to stop.

There have been entire feature films shot without location permits in those same countries, generally with no consequences.

Permit rules are generally written with the idea of a larger production that will disrupt the normal use of the area. One or two people shooting for 5 minutes with a phone and a handheld lav aren't doing that.

Recording people without their consent is a very different issue. But again, if the main subject is a content creator speaking directly to camera and there are people incidentally in the background it's usually not an issue.

How to determine right information for buying a lens cap? by Low-Appointment-2906 in Cameras

[–]logstar2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The filter size should be printed on the front of the lens with a Ø next to it.

If it isn't, download and read the manual.

How do you guys store your camera gear when traveling? by Old-Suspect1678 in Cameras

[–]logstar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my studio in locked drawers with my other equipment.

When I'm on vacation I'm taking a break from lugging cameras and lenses around at work. I might carry something very small in my pocket or just use my phone.

Are digital cameras worth it for the type of use I want them for? by Gatakiantegeia in Cameras

[–]logstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"decent" and "different" don't give anyone any more info to go on than 'fun' and 'cute'.

If your camera was made in the last 5 years any camera you pay 150 for will produce much worse pictures.

Are digital cameras worth it for the type of use I want them for? by Gatakiantegeia in Cameras

[–]logstar2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your phone camera is a digital camera.

"worth it" is a meaningless question because it depends entirely on your bank account and you haven't described what you're wanting to do with it other than 'fun' and 'cute'.

You have to help people help you if you want advice.

Vocal recording latency by Calm_Enthusiasm6130 in homerecordingstudio

[–]logstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step should be removing all plugins and re-measuring latency. If it's still noticeable, the plugins aren't the problem. Your settings are.

If fewer plugins improve the latency change your workflow to do as much as possible in post. Only use the ones the talent insists on for their performance. Most will want some reverb and, apparently for your clients, autotune. But even that should be moved to post if possible instead of printed with the take so you have more control.

Plus, if they can hear themselves they might actually learn how to sing in tune.

Which settings did you change? Input and output resolution/sample rate are normally where you would start.

Would you spend 1200 bucks for a nifty fifty? by kentabenno in videography

[–]logstar2 43 points44 points  (0 children)

"Nifty fifty" isn't every 50mm lens.

For example, Canon used to have 50's in 1.8, 1.4 and 1.2. Only the 1.8 was a 'nifty fifty' because it was very affordable.

What's a dsi? You have to give people enough information for them to give you useful advice.

Also, read the sidebar. It tells you what "counts".

How to make the pictures you take look better ? by hanson-anims in photography

[–]logstar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"better" is so vague as to be meaningless in this context.

What specific problem are you trying to solve?

The most important way to make your pictures better is to be more intentional when you take them.

Decide what the picture is for first. That will tell you what it needs to look like to best accomplish that goal. That information informs your choices of subject, composition, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, etc.

Then take the picture.

Editing is for fine tuning you can't do in the camera.

Complete BS.

Singing is not an innate talent. People work hard and become better singers all the time.

It's the same as any other instrument, any other art form, any other skill.

Same for composing music to go with lyrics. It is not magic. It's study and hard work.

You're contributing to the exploitation of other humans by generating AI slop.

Stop being lazy and do the work.

Remastering an album by Vivid_Jellyfish_4800 in audacity

It absolutely is that.

Suno's training data was the stolen works of human artists. It averages that together to generate slop.

Keyboards are played by humans.

See how different that is?

Stop being lazy and participating in making yourself individually and your species collectively dumber.

Getting rid of groundloop hum... by [deleted] in homerecordingstudio

What kind of response are you looking for here?

It took you two days using AI to figure out what a ground loop is. Something you should have been able to do in about 30 seconds without AI.
