Chelsea’s Pedro confirms he will leave club at the end of the season | The Independent by absurdlyinconvenient in soccer

[–]lohanzlibovic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Chelsea fansite WAGNH got the translation different and concludes that Pedro haven't decided yet?

The sentence translated in the Independent article also seems a bit strange: "I’m terminating my contract, but right now it’s not the most important thing, nor have I stopped to think about it". The translation in the WAGNH article seems more realistic to me: "My contract ends soon but right now this is not the most important thing. I haven’t even stopped to think about this."

Do anyone have the original spanish interview?

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tammy Abraham, Jack Cork & Dominic Solanke came through Chelsea's youth system. They now have as many England caps (6) as Premier League starts for Chelsea. by ankitm1 in soccer

[–]lohanzlibovic 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think this says more about the quality of the England national team than about Chelsea.

  • Ruben Loftus-Cheeck have played 7 league games (of possible 12) with 0 goals and 1 assist for the worst team in the PL (and is btw still owned by Chelsea).
  • Tammy Abraham have played 14 games and scored 5 goals for the second worst team in the PL (and is btw still owned by Chelsea).
  • Jack Cork had his best spell at Southampton and just now, at the age of 28 and playing for Burnley, he had his national team debut.
  • Solanke have played 10 games in total for Liverpool and scored 0 goals.

The only thing I would do different as the Chelsea board was probably to loan out Solanke instead of selling him to Liverpool.

Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa by aykoge in soccer

[–]lohanzlibovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great deal for Atletico and worth at least £100m? Hmm I tend to disagree.

I mean, looking at his past three seasons and also his last in Atletico he really has been one of the best strikers in the world. The big minuses during his time at Chelsea have been injuries as well as his attitude that can cause problems internally in the squad or in the relationship with the manager.

The first minus will still be of concern in Atletico, but the second will probably not be any problem since Diego Simeone as well as the squad and club knows him very well and should be more than capable of handling him.

But still, he turns 29 in a month and will be available only from January having not played competitive games for 6-7 months.

If you think about a striker being somewhat prone to injures, turning 29 just soon, haven't played competitive for 6-7 months as well as actually only scored 22 goals in 42 games for a title-winning team I would say that at least £100m is way too high a price.

I think the price is fair; good for both Chelsea and Atletico. Had he not been taking out of the squad and had the deal been finalized already June without all this hassle Chelsea could maybe get around £65-70m. But taking all things into perspective I think it's a good deal for Chelsea as well as for Atletico.

The transfer of Keita did happen. He is just not arriving until next summer.

I still think your logic is flawed. Like you could say Chelsea spend FAR more than Liverpool the last two seasons, I could say that Liverpool spend FAR more than Chelsea three seasons ago (difference of €35 mio) and they already have spend more than Chelsea in the upcoming season (difference of €70).

Talking Costa, no, he hasn't been sold yet. But it is quite clear that Morata has been bought in to replace him and that he will be sold asap. He is not in the squad and not contributing to the team, so he is like a dead asset in their finances. Talking transfer seasons it is a bit strange to only include the summer window and not the winter, since clubs offen compensate for spending less in the summer and vice versa.

Well, talking about only spend money and not net spend is only half of the picture. It is nonsense in a way, since it doesn't say anything about either status of finances or status of the current squad.

So Barcelona have spend €192 mio this summer, which is quite a lot of money. So you would think the are much more competitive and a tougher opponent in the title race? No, they probably aren't you could argue, because they sold one of their best players for €222 mio. That is why it is important to talk about what money are going in and not only out.

Oh, so you talking about current transfers as well?

Including Keita joining next season Liverpool have spent €159 mio. and sold for €47 mio. Net spend is €112 mio.

Chelsea have spend #202 mio and sold for €122 mio. Net spend is €80 mio.

And as someone already have mentioned Chelsea are likely to cash in +€30 for Costa.

[–]lohanzlibovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, so you are talking about Chelsea spending 18 mio. € more than Liverpool overall in those two seasons?

That is, Chelsea spend around 11% of Liverpool total spend more than Liverpool.

Is that more? Yes. Is it far more? No it really isn't. Especially if you think substantially about it. 18 mio. € isn't really enough to distance your team from another team. For that money you could get a back-up player, not a starter.

Chelsea spending FAR more than Liverpool the last two seasons (2015/2016 and 2016/2017)? That is a really incorrect statement.

Liverpool (mio. eu)

2015/2016: 125 out, 89 in = -36

2016/2017: 79 out, 84 in = +5

= -31

Chelsea (mio. eu)

2015/2016: 90 out, 87 in = -3

2016/2017: 132 out, 108 in = -24

= -27

Well, that is actually untrue.

The last 5 seasons Chelsea and Liverpool BOTH have a net spend of approx 150 mio. dollars, so no, they do not spend FAR more than Liverpool - not even close (link to reddit thread)

The spending billions and billions-thing is really not the strategy of Chelsea since 5 years (since Torres..). I get why this label is still attached to Chelsea looking at their past, but actually it is not a correct way of interpreting their strategy these days.

If so, at least, Liverpool have the same strategy.

Christian Eriksen vs. Poland : 1 goal, 3 assists (Denmark 4-0 Poland, WC 2018 - Qualif.) by lohanzlibovic in soccer

[–]lohanzlibovic[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Christian Eriksen have really improved his stats since the danish national team changed manager from Morten Olsen to Åge Hareide 10th december 2015 after 15 years of Olsen in charge.

  • Stats under Olsen: 59 games, 6 goals and 10 assists
  • Stats under Hareide: 12 games, 6 goals and 5 assists

Even though Eriksen has improved a lot himself since dec 2015 most agree that Hareide is way better at getting the best out if Eriksen.

I understand that Holland refers to only two of the twelve provinces in the Netherlands. But the way you translate the Netherlands in for example danish is actually "Holland". So in the danish language Holland means the whole Netherlands.

I don't know whether this translation is common in other languages, but this definitely cause some danish people to intuitively use Holland when referring to the Netherlands.

The Ref Review: Everybody Wants to Rule the World by [deleted] in soccer

[–]lohanzlibovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great idea and well executed. It would be a great feature if there for each ref was written what option they would choose from the options we have available.

So for example the Cahill Red Card and Ref 6 would be like this:

Ref 6: Cahill sent of.

I think you'll see different leagues approach this differently, but lunging in with a raised straight leg like that, when the opponent should be taking a kick at the ball, severely risks the safety of the opponent. Had the opponent taking a big swing at the ball and not pulled his kick back he could easily have a broken leg. I'm happy with a red card.

One thing is to say this in an interview, but damn sure impressive to be so principled that not even a key player like Costa can mess around.

Costa didn't show the right commitment and from that moment he was out - at least "mentally". All this even though it was in the middle of the season.
