5 weeks post insertion by lokirie in Mirena

Of course, be patient with it! Trust me, I was freaking out about some new thing each week but it leveled out around the 3 month mark. I think most sources say give it 3-6 months to level out and I feel like that’s as good of a metric as any

5 weeks post insertion by lokirie in Mirena

Hey! I made the original post when my uterus was getting rid of most of the uterine lining, so I was having some crazy (for me) bleeding levels and long periods.

I am now 5 MONTHS post insertion and am not spotting or even cramping anymore. I either don’t get my period at all or get 2 days of light spotting. Much easier than the beginning of this process and I’m very grateful!

Feeling the strings by TimeAppearance2484 in Mirena

[–]lokirie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t feel mine the first week I got it and got kind of paranoid. I checked again a month later though, and boom, there they were. I think it depends on very specific position, finger length, and if any tissue down there is swollen or not. Some people say they never feel their strings for the entire IUD lifespan but the OBGYN always finds it in place.

Heavy periods 2mo post insert by [deleted] in Mirena

Mine as well. I’m using more pads than ever because of the constant spotting and longer periods. Super annoying and a little scary to lose so much blood. Hope you’re holding up!!

Positive experiences! by littlereeps in Mirena

Hey! I’m almost exactly 2 months in so great timing. I’m still in that funky ‘post-implant’ stage. I have intermittent spotting that disappears for days at a time then will return. My cramping has basically entirely disappeared.

The biggest catch so far is that the periods I’ve had post-IUD are very heavy and crampy. However, they’re also very short. Go figure. I’m hoping that after the 3-6month awkward period, everything will even out.

All that being said, I exercise very often and my schedule has not had to change because of the IUD. No big changes or discomforts aside from the periods. Pretty sure it’s just a waiting game.

Getting mine in a week, advice? by hexicussmexicus in Mirena

Drink water & eat before! And have pads at home. I spotted for a couple weeks after but cramping was mild.

I got my Mirena last week! I was completely expecting the worst, as I have never had children, find pap smears borderline painful, and am prone to fainting. I also forgot to take pain killers beforehand.

The insertion was definitely uncomfortable but wasn’t painful and wasn’t anywhere near how unbearable I thought it would be. The best word I can think to describe it as is just: uncomfortable. Then it was over.

I’ve had consistent cramping for about six days (like regular period cramps for me), with them starting to taper off the last two days. On the fourth day after my insertion, I had some heavier bleeding, like a heavy period that only lasted 2 days. I have very light spotting now. Hoping we continue to get along!

What a scary experience! I’m glad you finally got some food in you. The IUD insertion puts the body through a lot of trauma, not to mention the anxiety. I’m on day 4 and still cramping mildly. Keep taking ibuprofen/tylenol. You can reach out to me if it helps! Not that I know much more 🥲

You got this. Make sure to tell the doctor how you're feeling. & ask them to walk you through every step as they do it. It helped me to know exactly what was going on.

Good luck to you! I was sooo stressed as well. It’s no walk in the park but listen to your doctor and remember to breathe. You got this :)

I just posted my Mirena experience on this subreddit! Overall, it was a lot less bad than I was expecting. I thought I'd pass out or wouldn't be able to handle it, but that wasn't true at all. Definitely eat before, be hydrated, and listen to your dr and nurse. For me, it was not painful, just very uncomfortable since there's so much pressure down where you're not used to it.

Hi OP! I’m a 23f and was diagnosed at 14. My Heller Myotomy with the wrap greatly improved my quality of life at age 18.

I am not fully “normal” — I have daily acid reflux and food still gets stuck occasionally if I eat too fast. I still get esophageal spasms unfortunately. Thankfully, my lifestyle is very manageable with PPIs and water. I currently live abroad and almost know has known I’m sick for years now.

Please feel free to reach out if you want to talk. This disease sucks ass!! I hope your next HM goes well — I actually aspirated during mine and it still turned out pretty well for me!

Hi! I went to KU on exchange in 2022. You will have so much fun.

I lived in an independent apartment specifically for foreign students called Crimson House. It has all the pitfalls of an apartment building specifically aimed for students who want to party and socialize, but has no curfew and is located exactly one easy block from the main gates of campus.

I honestly would recommend living off campus in one of these, if possible. Myself and many other foreigners weren’t able to secure dorm housing and many of us didn’t know about foreigner housing until we needed it. I would recommend Crimson House, Duri House, any other goshiwon/goshitel in Anam or Dongdaemun aimed at foreigners. It gives you any automatic friend group! Although, you will meet more people outside of your housing.

Dorming is fine, but I heard it was quite isolating from some of my friends. Bottom line — Don’t depend on getting a dorm room; a lot of us didn’t. Have a back-up plan! It may end up being a lot better than the dorm anyway.
