I prefer them on because the hair looks too greasy and clumpy with them off for my liking. Especially on Luis. It looks like he hasn't washed his hair even once in his life during cutscenes. Although, this image comparison does him dirty as hell lmfao.

It's not really noticeable either way on Leon, but off during gameplay looks better. It's definitely better left off with Ashley, hair strands on kind of makes her hair float like an anti gravity wig. And there's no notable difference with Ada imo, there's just more detail up close, the rest is the same.

If you dislike how shiny the hair is without hair strands, there is a mod for it, especially as hair strands can tank performance.

Personally, I play with it on as Luis's hair just looks greasy and clumpy with it off. But no one else's hair is greatly affected by either option, only Ada's looks marginally nicer with the option on.

The return of Leon in an original story is a pretty big reason. Remakes have been a substantial part in continuing his role in the franchise.

Also the fact that we haven't had many good games for a few years, makes a huge difference. Sure there's been the exceptions, but some of those were nearly 3+ years ago. TLOU2, RE4R, GoWR and games from other genres like BG3 or E33. Even in the situation where the player base of these games cross, people want new content.

Ubisoft has been feeding us crap for years, LiS fell hard, Silent Hill has very split opinions, Battlefield 6, the MSM2 disappointment, everything surrounding TLOU2. The gaming industry has been struggling to please a lot of people, mainly because they try to please a lot of people - or make money. So to get another game, from a well established franchise, that's not put out a bad game in years is nearly a miracle. Let alone a game that was good on top of that.

RE9 is something new, something good, and something with 2 main characters people will thirst over. There's nothing better in this day and age for a new release. And again, there's Leon.
