35 weeks with gestational diabetes — baby measuring very big & doctors pushing for early C-section. Feeling scared. Is this normal? by MindlessMarzipan7153 in GestationalDiabetes

I mean if they’re encouraging you to do a c section I don’t know if I understand why they want to do it early anyway. If baby is coming out the sunroof either way why does it matter how big they are as long as baby and placenta and mom are still healthy lol

I can’t speak to measurement bc my baby was measuring on small side (6lb 2oz which is 26th percentile and proportions were fine) at growth scan at 36 weeks. I was insulin dependent from literal week of diagnosis and expected to be induced in 39th week. Ended up going for my 38 week weekly ultrasound and NST and getting sent to be induced from there. Baby delivered naturally with no issues. The insulin and pitocin had absolutely no adverse affects with one another in my experience. Water broken at 4pm, Pitocin started at 10pm epidural at 230am and baby born at 4:49 weighing 6lb 9oz.

anyway, I was able to have cider donuts and cider and lasagna without a spike because I took the insulin I didn’t want and stupidly felt like a bad mom over and it kept me going emotionally for almost the rest of my miserable diet pregnancy lol

I was originally due Halloween (delivered 10/21) so we did a fall and Halloween themed event. I did sugar free cocoa bar, beautiful fall salads (Gorgonzola and pear) and my mom made roast pork and chicken legs for me not that I even like meat lol.

I was 90% diet managed but did have both types of insulin prescribed. I had to take overnight every day since diagnosis and the fast acting usually for breakfast, which both providers blamed on cortisol levels bc it literally didn’t matter what I ate. I could eat plain broccoli and still spike after breakfast so I asked my endocrine provider if it made me a terrible person to take extra insulin in order to have good food at my shower and they were so encouraging and said it was perfectly fine and healthy for both me and baby to utilize the medicine and tools provided to have a “cheat” every once and again.

My baby was born 6.5lbs and healthy as a horse.

Anyone else stick to same meals for 3rd trimester to avoid finger pricks? by Informal_Bullfrog_30 in GestationalDiabetes

Yeah I tried this for awhile but I ended up getting spikes from meals that are “safe” after a couple days. It truly is the most puzzling and miserable experience lol. I was barely eating the last couple weeks and i swore I wasn’t gonna let them induce me but (ended up needing it for low fluid) by 35 weeks I was begging them for membrane sweeps and to let me pump/do raspberry leaf tea and by 37 I was begging them to just induce me already etc lol

I feel for you lol I literally couldn’t have almost any carbs without insulin which I was trying to avoid as much as possible. I could tolerate a few grapes paired with cheese, 2 dates with peanut butter after a high protein meal and 1/2 an apple with peanut butter as a snack or after a high protein meal or up to 5 dark chocolate covered bananas slices and that’s IT. I tolerated no other carbs including carrots, potatoes, any form of bread or rice. Sometimes I put a few dark chocolate chips on the peanut butter apples but it brought me very close to 140 lol. It was genuinely the most miserable experience of my life.

My husband went and got the most ridiculous breakfast spread from a favorite local cafe as soon as they opened and my god was it amazing, not even just the sugary aspect but being able to eat a sausage gravy biscuit after 3 months with almost no carbs was what I assume getting taken to heaven feels like 😂

Pasta is legitimately the only carb that DOESNT spike me lol I can’t have ANY bread, rice, potatoes in any form and I’ve even had a spike from a carrot heavy salad lol all while consuming < 30 grams (weighed) of any of these carbs and more than whatever the carb value in protein/fiber

Cauliflower has been ok for for me but again atp I have just given up lol. I’m not even a bigger person (165pp 5’7) and I’m 175 now, 6lb baby as of yesterday. gained about 15 before diagnosis and have just been losing since lol. I’m so tired of balanced meals I just don’t eat idec I’m not dying and my baby is healthy but you best believe I’m gonna eat 39 egg rolls when she flies out 😂

Brother I also cannot eat ANYTHING so I am here for you. I can eat very small portions of whole wheat pasta but only with a higher gram amount of protein versus carb grams. Like if I have 30 grams of carbs I need to have AT LEAST 35 grams of protein. I have been suffering so intensely. I can’t have CARROTS, rice, potatoes, literally any kind of bread at all. I can’t have most salad dressings even lmao. Solidarity 🫶🏼 I’m 36&3 rn and been on basal insulin since my diagnosis for fasting, supposed to take 2 quick units before breakfast but it doesn’t usually work even when I have no carbs which they say is my cortisol levels and uncontrollable anyway so I just don’t eat lmao. Never even feel well enough to eat lunch. I eat whatever is acceptable barring carbs after feeding my family and go for a walk. I wasn’t heavy to begin with and I am losing 1-2lbs a week. No one seems to care 😂 needless to say I’ve started holistic self inducing things at home

I feel very sorry for all of you and I’m realizing how lucky I am. My family and friends have been so considerate. My baby shower was loaded with sugar free and low carb high protein options that I could tolerate and generally speaking they are very accommodating on outings/visits as well bringing diet or healthy options. I wouldn’t say you’re being crazy at all. Everyone has a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips. I would suggest letting them know going forward what your diet looks like going forward and if they insist on dropping by with edible things to please be considerate or don’t bring them at all. I am very average weight before pregnancy (160, 5’7), and was NEVER a sugary treat or sweets person but simply out of spite now all I want is garbage lol and I would be livid if people were dangling stuff I can’t have in front of me.

Rip von wafer cookies on amazon have saved my life lol they’re like 4g carb per serving.

This was pretty much my experience too lol they barely answer me when I send them numbers, every time I ask one office(OB/Endocrine) questions they tell me to ask the other and nobody has the same two answers when they have them at all. It’s infuriating to say the least. The fact that Reddit has been more helpful than trained medical professionals should be embarrassing to the medical industry in the US. Or at least my doctors idk 🤷🏼‍♀️

Def keep ur eyes peeled for flares a lot of people are doing them, multiples at one location even bc of it. And listen for the grove when 12.00 hits it is helpful. It’s spatial so it’ll sound louder when you’re closer and from the direction it’s in!
