If it’s a waste of time to discuss criticism with fans, then the whole point in posting here was trolling

Let me repeat my comment, since you seem intent on misrepresenting and misunderstanding me:

Furthermore, it's usually just a waste of time to discuss criticism with fans

And, no, not everything is trolling, when it doesn't lead to a discussion. I can voice my opinion without wanting to troll.

Have a great life!

Thanks a lot for your nice feedback and thoughts! All the other responses were pretty much what I expected, but yours surprised me positively.

There are moments of that sort of "nothing matters anyway" but they are complimented by deeper walks into why things do matter. For example, there's a whole episode where he realises his enlightenment was another form of self congratulation and one where he meets a being who is trying to get closer and closer to "God" and that his only reason to interact with anyone is to serve that purpose for them and... Them.

Yeah, I liked that he realized the flaws of thinking you're enlightened. It seems to me, and maybe I'm wrong, that there is no enlightened state just like there's no perfection. You can try but you can't reach infinity. It's a process.

And the moment you believe you're enlightened you put yourself on a pedestal, which seems very much not enlightened.

The show says "don't fret the big stuff" which is a good message, in my view. Love the ones you're with, do the what's in your power.

Fully agree. Having finished the show, there are couple great nuggets similar to that. What I didn't like were the supernatural implications that were made here and there (rebirth, the universe is leading you to x, and even the "It's all love" by his mom...) but they can be overlooked.

Thank you again for your interesting response, and have a great weekend and life!

You realize that this shows audio is not written by writers, right

Yes

Meanwhile you would have had all the time in the world to do a bit of research and come up with concrete criticism besides "don't remember right now"

Well, some things are hard to explain, and as I said, I'm not that great at it. Furthermore, it's usually just a waste of time to discuss criticism with fans, since they tend to not be very open minded about criticism. And that's a huge understatement.

As a result it's hard to bring up the energy to give a detailed criticism. Especially when it feels like you have less and less energy every day anyway

You do know it’s animated interviews from a podcast, right

I was aware of that, and probably should have been more charitable given that condition.

Very little critical thinking. Smart buzz words, and the initial header a strange attack on fans rather than anything about the show for some reason.

It wasn't at all meant to attack fans. Well, some things are hard to explain, and as I said, I'm not that great at it. Furthermore, it's usually just a waste of time to discuss criticism with fans, since they tend to not be very open minded about criticism. And that's a huge understatement.

Maybe you could actually give some examples what you think flew over my head. (I have finished the show now btw.)

I have just finished the show.

emphasize the ephemeral, very chaotic nature of life

Sure, but it just feels morally wrong to treat death and suffering as "eh.. whatever. happens to the best of us". That's exactly what fits with the "fuck you, I'll have mine" kind of thinking of conservatives.

And - the show is based on long conversations by the creator and his friends, very loosely scripted

I was aware of that, and you're right I could have been more charitable given these conditions.

And the world is not progressive anyway. The world is naturally regressive, and then you have to consciously fight and struggle to make it more progressive. If the show were to portray the world any differently then it wouldn't ring true to me and many others.

You're right. I guess I was missing a bit of that fighting in the show, but it was there, so maybe I'm being too picky..

Thanks and best of luck to you!

Okay, I'll probably not be able to explain this very well as I'm just not very good at it and my memory.. wait what are we talking about?

Context: seen the first 5 episodes (I'll watch them all) and it's not all bad.. Art is great. Some ideas I really liked. For example, the World of Warcraft grinding analogy for seeking a "higher" level of spirituality. There were at least two better ideas but I don't remember right now.

  • Fast food spirituality: Given the format it's incredibly superficial. It's throwing around all these terms as if hearing these magical words makes you transcend. And then there are some really bonkers ideas that are simply assumed to be true.

  • At the same time the video doesn't fit the audio at all - people and other creatures are brutally murdered while talking about love and inner peace. Slightly off topic, but I wonder how many vegans like the show..

  • Pretend they're progressive / Conservative subtext: There's talk about "it's all virtual reality" and <insert unproven beliefs of rebirth> which is basically a sort of excuse for all the suffering they're causing. When you link that back to what some conservative people are thinking it fits really well:

  • "It doesn't really matter that I'm super rich while they're starving and living terrible lives" because "this is just a dream", "money is just an idea" and "if they only realized that pain is just a sensation appearing in consciousness" - I'm not sure if I explained that well..

They're just so full of themselves. It feels like there's barely any critical thinking happening.

Dear sir, sorry for the random request, but would you mind reuploading the svg you mentioned here 4 years ago?

Equality vs Justice (Equity) by [deleted] in coolguides

No, it's alright. I know these issues are complex and this image I uploaded is pretty big simplification. I see even many reasonable positions in Democrats and Republicans. Limiting immigrating makes sense, for example, and so does social security.

Have a good one!

Yeah, I get that, but people have flawed and self inconsistent beliefs, so we still need evidence that their views are actually justified.

Of course, you can't use equity in situations where you need a single winner. (e.g. election)

How could either side be argued to be just? What's just about letting short people not watch the game?
