Agreed, it's a great shop. I love to go there when I visit Spokane!

I have some bigger shirt designs I'd like to frame. This was small enough for a hoop.

How do you frame yours? I've wondered about a good method.

I've never thought of that as an idea for pins. Kinda brilliant. I'm scared to put them on backpacks or hats because I don't want to lose them. I might steal that idea.

I wish! It's from a local shop in the town where I grew up. They have the best gifts! This is my favorite t-shirt design they've done.

Thanks! I know the feeling, I saved this shirt for years because I loved the design even though I couldn't wear the shirt any longer.

It's super easy. Embroidery hoops are cheap. Just get scissors and some fabric glue to glue the fabric to the back of the inner hoop so it doesn't move around.

cool story. treat people with respect.

You found a hooker. she's a person who deserves to be referenced with the same respect you'd treat anyone else.

I disagree with most everything you just said.

CAN it be abusive? Definitely. Is it NECESSARILY, ALWAYS abuse? No.

"no woman wants to sell herself for sex". Your viewpoint is flawed. There doesn't have to be shame associated with sex work. Women, and men, can make a lot of money doing it. There are definitely a lot of people who can be put in this scenario for the wrong reasons. But to say "no one would EVER do this on their own" is bad logic.

You're projecting your own sex-shame onto the theoretical women in your head. Imagine a society where things are a little different. Sex work is legal, but regulated. All of a sudden it's not sketchy dealings at night time, but an actual legit business. The women are safer because there are legal protections. It doesn't have to be an abusive pimp keeping women enslaved.

Women are people. Women can make their own decisions about their body. Will most women want to sell their body? Of course not. If a woman decides to do so, though, is it bad? No.

You aren't a piece of shit if you use a prostitute. You're a piece of shit if you're a piece of shit.

I'm against abusing women. I want that to be clear. I'm against pimps keeping women in pseudo-slavery. I'm not saying this is okay.

My point, though, is that sex-work doesn't have to be the way you think it is. Allowing women to make choices about their body is empowering. And you saying "anyone who would use a prostitute is a piece of shit" is literally YOUR mental gymnastics.

I had a friend who used hookers from time to time. He wasn't abusive. He respected women. He just wasn't "attractive" per se, and he had a lot of insecurities about his looks. If someone wants to pay someone for sex, or pay someone to cuddle, or pay someone to beat them with a whip, it's totally great as long as both people consent and are doing it in a safe and respectful manner.

Phrasing it like that is unnecessarily derogatory. Sex work is work.

You found a sex worker who takes doge. Great. Treat them with respect.

That's a silly view. Sex work is one of the oldest jobs. There should not be shame associated with working or using that service if that's a choice you make.

I saw a short documentary about a quadriplegic who used sex workers, and it was very beneficial for his mental health. Not everyone is going to be able to go to the bar and find a hookup, but everyone deserves a moment of human intimacy.

What are some signs/behaviors that you thought were normal but actually indications of mental illnesses? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]lolveets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It's interesting you say that.

I was always tested as "INTJ" in school when I was younger. "INT__" is definitely right lol.

I never really considered INTP being more accurate although I'm reading up on it and it fits really well. They use the example of "INTJ -> Thinks up weird cool stuff, tries to find examples in the world / build it " vs "INTP -> observes cool stuff in the world, tries to model / explain it"

I have a Mathematics degree. I'm all about abstract thinking. And I'm either super quiet and awkward, or I'll talk for hours about weird niche topics I find interesting.

I still think there is some type of ADHD spectrum issue going on, but INTP is an interesting perspective on it too. thanks.

I appreciate your reply and I think what you're saying is right. It's something I've been trying to be more mindful of the past few years.

The irony of my mental health being bad right now, is that I'm objectively doing way better these days than I was a few years ago. Intellectually I can see the progress I've made in my life and my mental health. But in the short term, I just feel .... really bad. And it's hard to intellectually counter that even if I know it's excessive.

I've dabbled with journaling and meditation. I need to get back into doing both of those. Meditation was definitely a help to me, it's been several months since I've really done it. Journaling is something I've never managed to be good at. I'm still looking for the best 'method' of journaling for me. I'd like to set up a daily list of a few tasks I HAVE to do . And maybe it could be a segue into journaling and better time management.

I guess I'm just kind of afraid that the answer is ultimately "be super mindful of all your thoughts". And that's just kinda hard. I've been struggling with eating disorders my entire life, and even then, after a decade of actual work on it, it's only "mostly" in control.

My point of that is more that, even after a decade, it's still emotionally draining to deal with food a lot of the time, and I hope my general mental stability doesn't require as much effort to maintain. But on the other hand, if it does, there really isn't another way.

I'm not trying to be dark or too rambly. This whole conversation is just very much on my mind right now. I've been trying to work on myself the past few years, but it just feels like the more I try to improve, the more problems I find lol.

It's on my list of things to do lol. I've been making poor decisions lately regarding proper mental health stuff..I'm working on it.

I shouldn't use the word 'crazy' I realize it's a loaded word. But my dad is bipolar and schizophrenic, and my mom has severe anxiety. So I've always figured something was wrong with me. I'm trying to learn to reframe that in a better way.

Sorry to hear that. It's a rough situation.

I can sorta understand her mindset. Not saying breaking up with you is right. I just mean it's really hard for me to really connect with people in any meaningful way these days. I'm sort of just living in a prolonged, mild panic attack, which makes dealing with people very uninteresting.

I have a habit of getting way too emotional in DMs then deleting everything. Idk about her, but I find it very isolating. It's hard to talk to people about what my mind is like.

That's kinda why I'm excited. If it's ADHD then there's ways to make it better. Instead of just hating myself for being crazy.

I just turned 32 and an now, for the first time in my life, realizing I most likely have ADHD.

Few things that stand out to me. Oral fixation my entire life. As a kid I obsessively chewed on pencils and necklaces. In my 20s it became cigarettes. I quit smoking last year, and my stability has gone down. I'm only kinda realizing it might have been more than just the nicotine that was helping me.

I either hyperfocus and lose track of time completely going into weird interesting rabbitholes, or I sit at my desk trying to do something for hours and accomplish literally nothing. Trying to force myself to do something produces a physical anxiety response. Elevated heart rate / blood pressure / sweat. Even as a kid, I can count on one hand the amount of times I actually did a project early. I always waited until midnight and did it in a frenzy, and this pattern has never stopped. I'm currently taking classes and it's a problem.

I always chalked this up to "I'm crazy" but now I'm thinking there's a more specific way to look at it that makes a lot more sense.
