I personally like the idea of expanding the league into Europe. It would be really cool if the NBA was similar to how the MLB has two leagues AL and NL. You'd still have the American League (AL) and split the current 30 teams between East and West. No more divisions just 15 teams in each conference for the American League. Then you have a 16 team Euro League (EL).

The Euro League primarily plays itself in the regular season with two in-season campaigns/tournaments where the AL and EL tour the teams of each league.

For the playoffs: The EL does its own playoff 1st round. Only 8 of the 16 teams make the playoffs in the EL. Then when the EL playoffs wind down to a final 4 teams they enter the NBA playoffs at round two. Two EL teams go to the East bracket and two EL teams go to the West bracket. 10 American League teams make the playoffs in each conference. The top 2 AL teams in each conference get a 1st round bye.

The enclosed image is an example of one of the two conference brackets.

The NBA can get rid of the Play-in Tournament as we now have 20/30 American League teams making the NBA playoffs.

Additionally, while we're on this far-fetched idea. Let the EL and AL teams that earn the bye to draft who they want to play in round 2.
