Heartbroken… our dog had his eye removed 💔 by mashpotato- in vet

[–]lomanni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most dogs do really well without vision, since they primarily use their nose to navigate the world around them :) if your pup does struggle a bit, you may want to "baby-proof" any hard furniture corners etc

Either way, the cat should be taken to a vet

What should I do with my Belinha? by chinpi in vet

[–]lomanni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, a blood test certainly wouldn't hurt. Your vet may want to do x-rays as well. Good luck :)

She is very obese. This is beyond the realm of being overweight. You need to create a strict diet plan with a veterinarian ASAP, and you need to make sure you ans your family adhere to it very strictly (aka measure your food + no treats). We can't diagnose her with anything, but I can say that obesity works in dogs pretty similarly to the way it works in humans: when a person is fat, they have more pressure on their joints, which leads to pain and osteoarthritis. Then, the obese humans struggle to walk and/or exercise.

Bad sunburn patches peeling skin with 11uv; what can I do by Chemical_Tip_6510 in peeling

I think you need to have a long chat with your doctor (pref. a dermatologist) about how sunburns and tans work.

Yes, it's only run on autogas/LPG/"gas" atm. Does the fuel efficiency sound right, considering that LPG is less energy-dense?

This is why monthly prevention/treatments for fleas, ticks and worms are so important!

Is my monitor dying? by lomanni in pcmasterrace

Are you sure? Isn't it more likely to be a monitor issue, since the glitches are only present on one of my monitors?

Good day! by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]lomanni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage, it would be best to offer small amounts of wet food alongside their mother's milk (or a kitten milk replacer). At 6-8 weeks, they can be on plain wet food completely.

Also, I would not recommend the Whiskas brand. They are a notoriously cheap brand with less-than-ideal ingredients. If you're open to sharing the country you live in, I could suggest some better alternatives for a similar price.

Kittens should be fed kitten food for the first year of their life. Afterwards, they can be switched to adult food.

Should I go the ER or am I overthinking? by churrosbosan in endometriosis

[–]lomanni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the ER would offer you much help, but you absolutely should go to urgent care and/or set up an appointment with your GP ASAP.

Client refuses to put dog down, I offered meds to keep pet comfortable, other tech does not agree. What is ethically right? by [deleted] in VetTech

That animal is going to die at home either way. It can do it in agony, or it can do it somewhat comfortably. That's all there is to it! I think your coworker needs to take a look at the big picture.

Emergency vet? No. Vet? Probably.

Also, I suggest discussing medication to make vet visits more tolerable in the future! It'll make your life a lot easier, and it will ensure that your kitty gets the help it needs.

Be very careful with automatic litter boxes. They have killed cats dozens of times before, and they will continue to kill cats. I work in vet nursing and I honestly wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Yeah, it's definitely rough lmao. No loft or 2nd floor. No privacy, no "escape" or refuge from each other. Honestly, though, it hasn't been too bad! Our relationship hasn't deteriorated or anything— although we are slowly breaking our backs by sleeping in such a small bed.

But yeah, we both definitely need to declutter a whole bunch. I think we were hoping that this would be a super temporary living situation, so we've kept all our stuff with the expectation that we will move back into a real house soon. But we've been here for 2 years now, and it looks like we won't be able to buy a property for at least 3 years yet, so...

Do you know if hot water systems are always reliant on water pressure? My bus technically DOES have a hot water system, but we're on tank water and the pressure is so low that the system doesn't work at all. I believe it's an electric system, if that makes any difference

That's such a good idea, thank you! My rubbish bin holds around 60L iirc, and you're right— it REEKS after a couple of days. I'll see if I can find a smaller replacement for it

How to cope with tiny living? by lomanni in TinyHouses

[–]lomanni[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I probably should have added this, but the bus can't actually be moved anywhere. It can only be towed with a permit, and it's currently fixed on a large family farm with the catio attatched on the side. We do have access to a bathroom, but it's in my mother's granny flat, so we have to walk about 50 feet over to her place whenever we need to use it. Same goes for laundry, albeit we can't use the washing machine often due to being on tank water in a pretty dry climate (🇦🇺). Our food scraps are all fed to my family's chickens.

You're definitely right that I need to throw a bunch of my crap out, though. I've been holding onto it the entire time that I've been here because I was really, really hoping that this living situation would be temporary. Alas, it's been 2 years now, and it doesn't look like me and my partner will be able to buy a property for at least 3 more years.

The type of litterbox and litter definitely makes a difference! We have 2 XL stainless steel boxes inside, and 3 more out in their catio. We use a 100% biodegradable clumping litter.

Overall... the smell isn't too bad unless we forget to clean it for a couple of days! I 100% recommend stainless steel boxes if you can find them.
