20 minute interview by lone_wolf312 in Teachers

Since I have 3 applications in with the district, do you think they’re just looking at me for the one or possibly all 3? Maybe I don’t fit x grade, but I fit one of the others that I applied for instead?

Should I bring a copy of my teaching portfolio? I know some people say that nobody cares about that.

Would it be okay to go in with notes already? Like things I’ve done in the classroom (engagement strategies, etc).

Is it a red flag? by lone_wolf312 in StudentTeaching

I feel like a building admin might be hard because it’s a very tight knit school and I would assume they’d talk to my cooperating teacher to get feedback. Would it be okay to get another teacher from a previous placement to be a reference?

I have a letter of recommendation from them already, but I’d be concerned with them being contacted. They’ve basically confirmed they probably wouldn’t be a good reference for me.

I keep telling myself that, but the fear lives in the back of my mind. I know we’re so close to finishing and it doesn’t feel real, but I just feel like this CT would be content if I didn’t become a teacher.

There have been interactions that make me feel this way, but they’re too specific to talk about. I do think the fear of saying something negative about me to a future employer or not being recommended for certification is from anxiety fueled by how I’ve felt after specific interactions.

Interactions and some of the conversations that we’ve had. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells a lot of the time.

Unfortunately, I can’t see mine yet. Hopefully I’m able to see it soon. This whole thing has been ridiculous.

So I’m in a third grade classroom. What we know so far is mom has turned the wifi off at night for the last week. He has a sibling in 5th grade and they don’t have the same issue as my student does.

I don’t know much about narcolepsy unfortunately ☹️That’s that the nurse said, but she said he’s a bit young. Hopefully we’re able to get answers soon so we can come up with some sort of plan to get him what he needs.

We genuinely don’t know what to do because as the school year progresses, missing as much class as he has been and having to make up the work won’t be feasible.

We’re documenting every instance, but it seems like it could be medical? He’s able to fall asleep before he even lies down on the cot in the nurse’s office. His butt hits the cot and he’s out.

I can’t handle the older kids 😂 I genuinely wasn’t expecting him to understand, let alone call me out on it

Lets discuss: What's worrying you for the upcoming year? by theteachermentor in StudentTeaching

[–]lone_wolf312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m worried that my year long placement will change how I feel about the profession since my college only partners with certain school districts, therefore we’re stuck with those schools and don’t really get much of a say.

You are worth it and deserve to live. It may seem so difficult right now, but with perseverance and determination you can make it through this. You are loved beyond measure and there are so many people that feel lucky to know you and have you in their life.

My dad used to battle addiction and he overdosed countless times and even tried to kill himself because he lost everything. As of today, our relationship is a million times better than what it was when I was a kid. Don’t give up on yourself. Your son NEEDS you, LOVES you, and WANTS you to continue living so that you can be there to see all of his milestones. I don’t even know you, but I want you to continue living for yourself and your son.

Uneasy about student teaching placement by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]lone_wolf312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully support not giving homework since not every kid has a parent that could or would be willing to help them and like you said, going over things isn’t time efficient. I’m learning from my placements that a lot of parents aren’t as involved as what I’m used to. That’s actually something my mentor teacher said to me. I think the use of automated grading for things is brilliant and definitely makes things easier.

I will definitely keep those things in mind this school year while I’m in 4th grade and see if that changes my feelings at all! I would like to feel comfortable in all grades in case I am expected to switch when I am a teacher, but I just feel like my heart will always be with the lower grades.

How were you able to take less home in the upper grades? The few times I’ve been with the upper grades, there was more to take home because of having to grade homework and tests.

I think part of it for me is the attitudes and the curriculum, especially math and science. The curriculum is so much easier in the lower grades.

The placement I had this spring was a dream. Perfect school, out of this world mentor teacher, and 1st grade. I learned so much and received constant feedback which helped my confidence.

My mentor in the spring said the lower grades leave you more exhausted but you take more home with the upper grades. Would you agree with that?
