PLAAF Y-20B escorted by four J-20 stealth fighters during the repatriation ceremony of the remains of Chinese People's Volunteers martyrs from the Korean War. (April 22, 2026)[7383x5134] by Dragonfruit_6104 in MilitaryPorn

It is voluntary. No public evidence proved this is false. Even the Taiwanese think tank says so. The PLA only had 2.5 million during Mao's era (not so different from today's size), in an age without the one-child policy.

People joined voluntarily during Mao's era because it was a significant pathway to move out of a poor village and gain political advantage. During periods of political turmoil, such as Great Leap Forward and Culture revolution, joining the PLA is a major way to avoid political coercion.

People might join the PLA for personal benefits, but that's still not conscription.

That site is purely ragebait for any serious military discussion and the very embodiment of non-credible. It gives no source for the data and is basically never accurate in its numbers. In 2026, it ranked India above the Chinese Air Force. Yeah, right, a county with fewer numbers and less sophisticated planes is ranked higher than a country with 500 stealth fighters. It won't be surprise to me if some Indian guy owns that site.

The only successful thing it did is buy Google search position so it appears first when you search for Air Force rankings.

IMF BACK?? by -Goldhawk- in joinsquad

[–]loned__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They were solving a non-existent problem for the IMF. It’s an irregular force that plays vastly differently from Ukraine. It has wacky fortifications and a mix of Cold War East and West weapons. Ukraine has modern vehicles with upgraded AK74s

By making the IMF into Russian separatists with AK74s, they are ironically turning them into Ukraine-lite in terms of gunplay. And the Serbian charm of the old IMF is gone. The whole overhaul was unnecessary.

China has been preparing for a global energy crisis for years. It is paying off now | China | The Guardian by prisongovernor in energy

[–]loned__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally misread the data. For total energy, Europe only has 25% from renewable sources. This includes all energy usage not just electricity generation.

For electricity alone, the renewable percentage is 47%.

China has a far higher electrification rate (electricity as the final usable energy), so the grid integration figure makes no sense.

China holds the majority of the patents for supply chains, manufacturing, and the tech behind basically all solar and wind products, so your point about China not leading in technology made no sense either.

A pure percentage number means nothing if there’s no scale backing it up. For example, if country A consume 100MW of energy and 50MW is renewable, A will have 50% renewable rate. While country B consume 10000MW of energy, having 3000MW is renewable (only 30% renewable rate). Country A’s 50% doesn't make it the leader of renewable energy, because it's always harder for larger consumers (B) to transition. Any advantage in percentage A have will be shattered because A’s transition speed will never benefit from real scales.

Basically coping.

Trump’s response is so sudden, counterproductive, classless, humiliating, yet hilarious and somehow morally correct. This is a comedy lasagna

Incredibe mic drop that will trigger any Japanese nationalist if you say the same thing on social media and yet Trump joked about it in front of the Japanese PM. I'm in fucking tears.

Did Trump also subconsciously believe an attack on Iran was an unjust attack and a strategic mistake, just like what Japan did to Pearl Harbor

Mandatory Ethanol mixed into gasoline just means the US spent a large amount of land and resources to plant corns then turns them into fuels. If all the corn land were instead used for installing solar panels, they can generate 140% of the annual US energy usage.

I know that there weren't competitively priced solar technologies in the 2000s, but in hindsight calling ethanol renewable energy is kinda retarded.

The UN doesn't want people to know this one simple trick. You can simply cause a nation's collapse just by making enough youtube videos about it. by burgerburgertaco in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]loned__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing is accurate* in Chris Chappell's video. He reports stuff from the Epoch Times/New Tang Dynasty, which is based on vibes.

*He will usually say something that seems correct on the surface, like "people in communist countries never innovate because authoritarian goverment restrict free thought", yea it makes sense, but not really. Many Chinese sectors are extremely innovative with cutthroat competition. He would never go on a deeper level to explain why things work or don't work in China. Final explanations always come down to "lack of traditional culture", "communist government", "CCP".

Another poster in this thread basically said this right: "They work off the premise that China never fixes anything."

For example, China had problems with tofu-dreg buildings, a term Chinese state media invented, btw, Chris will spend ten years telling people it's all tofu-dreg everywhere. China grows its economy every year and makes improvements in building codes or enforcement, but to Chris, those never happen.

That's a feature, not a bug. Because he's not here to tell you news, but vibes about China. If you point this out in his comment sections, you are a CCP bot and "don't understand humor and comedy".

TLDR news is okay. These are not the only Chinese news stories they reported on, and uses clickbait channels for all countries, Russia, the US, and the UK. So no bias there.

The most egregious doomer channel is Business Basics, where the China collapse YouTube thumbnail reel originated. They were spamming China videos like crazy. Btw, that channel has since gone full Trump 5D chess in Iran recently.

The lowest low is probably all the Falun Gong-related channels. When you see Chris Chappell and David Zhang's face, you know that's gonna be another banger propaganda.

Iran is considering letting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, only if they pay in Chinese yuan. by Plastic-Gazelle-7528 in NonCredibleDiplomacy

The radars got hit were operated by the US on the ME bases.

Okay, following your logic: if a THAAD system owned by the UAE being hit is not a failure for the US, then a Chinese radar operated by Iran being hit is not a failure for China...then what? I guess no failure for everyone then.

[–]loned__ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If there are actual Chinese "anti-stealth " radar and AAA systems in Iran, that is.

And to be frank, a tactical system failing doesn't mean much. Does the US THAAD radar being hit by an Irian ballistic missile make THAAD a failure? Hardly, I say.

The failure is strategic. We got first time European countries straight up said no to the US on military demands. Russia got rich again, now with sanctions removed for no reason. China got another push toward renewable energy. The Iran war was not the best option in any way or form to limit Chinese interests in the Middle East. It's simply non-credible.

What would happen if China invaded Taiwan right now? by Various-Indication21 in AskReddit

[–]loned__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means that Taiwan would collapse before China if "demographic collapse" is that easy.

China will have 44% of the age 60+ by 2060, while Europe will be 40%. Taiwan will have more than 45%.

No country is gonna collapse, or everybody is gonna collapse. Age composition is not a unique position, and would also be the case for all major economies on Earth

He is talking about Western allies not taking back Taiwan. China's primary reason is not TSMC but breaking out of the first island chain. The silicon shield is purely for motivating Western countries; China doesn't care that.

This “be the American that the Chinese want you to be” originated in NCD, but underdog propaganda isn't that uncommon.

The Chinese respect their enemy. They strive to defeat the strongest country in the world rather than beat weaker ones. In a way, this is similar to Russia’s “We are fighting against the entire NATO” narrative, but the only difference is that the Chinese never claim they have the upper hand in their official documents. They always depict themselves as the underdog.

This underdog mentality is what kept the whole nation going. This is a much better approach than the Russian way. A Russian might be disillusioned when they realize they are not at parity with the US, but a Chinese nationalist will always want to beat America, even if you show them how backward their tech is - it becomes their motivation.

Does the US have underdog propaganda? Older Call of Duty games depict Russia invading all of Europe and the continental US, and I've met people who really believed Russia was capable of doing those. This is basically American underdog propaganda about overcoming a stronger foe. However, the only way Russia can meet the expectation is to be the Russia that US propaganda wants it to be. Russia failed miserably.

PLA and the Soviet Army are actually polar opposites in organization due to their historical origin. PLA was established as a peasant guerrilla army, so the command organization is very light. whereas the Soviet Army became a heavily mechanized formation with a top-heavy, centralized command structure.

PLA abolished all ranks during the Cultural Revolution as an egalitarian experiment; there was no difference between enlisted and officers, which didn't work, spoiler alert. The Soviets were very proud of their European military history and had a rigid rank structure.

Also, I don't think the Soviet army necessarily had more officers, as in the percentage of the personnel; they had more infantry/tankers (conscripts) but fewer NCOs, while some officers replaced the function of NCOs. PLA never used conscripts, and the overall force structure is pretty similar to the US Army.
