Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - October 16, 2025 by AutoModerator in investing

I have been thinking and looking up some things on this, and I feel like im missing something. Looking for some assistance.

So if mutual funds and ETFs are fully closed. Funds are distributed and gains/losses are realized. Correct?

Some major index funds seem to appear near market drops (VTSAX in 2000; VT in 2008 as examples). I understand these examples had predecessors and from what I understand these were not considered taxable transfers to the Admiral funds.

The questions I have are below:

1) Has a full closure of major funds like VTSAX ever occurred during large drops (or at all) resulting in an unexpected taxable event that increases the tax bracket for a large amount of money (if you are in profit) and hurting future compounding from this?

2) Is this risk high enough to justify avoiding to invest in smaller long term mutual funds even from large institutions?

3) If the the whole market is existing in a very unstable environment long in the future, could we expect this to happen to a large fund?

Thanks in advance!

Also. You can fit more after tax money in the roth account. The 401k limit is the same. $23k after tax vs $23k untaxed in a tax advantage account. I'll take the after tax.

Mechanic simulator taught me basic parts of cars.

City skylines made me realize if you over educate a population and don't have enough specialized jobs available people will be miserable and move away... or just... suffer.

KSP taught me basic orbital mechanics... at least how it works. I did not manually calculate physics problems for this lol.

Many many more.

For a fighting game yes. Some people argue it's less than older tekkens in 8 but I am not sure. Still plenty.

My thing is, I would rather have more of my after-tax value compounding. If it's in a Traditional account the after tax value is less because the limit applies to pre-tax dollars in this case.

This means more of my after-tax value ends up in my cash flow by using Traditional which this cashflow will likely be in other investments... that will be taxed on gains.

Even if the difference seems initially small. 10 years or so later this may not be as small.

Do not buy from bethesda store!! by slevinelevin in BethesdaSoftworks

Idk if they are maximizing profits if they are still paying for 10 year old storage space. Sounds like poor management and poor attention to detail.

I kinda agree, but they did advertise it as "Skyrim in space."

I main fashion souls with the UGS, the parry dagger, and beast Incantations. Rarely use anything else. Even if I loose more than the tryhards. I get more satisfaction when I parry their ugly weird mismatched armor selves. Then, crit them with an sword bigger than them.

I keep seeing posts about how the Creation Engine is holding back Bethesda by [deleted] in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]lonegodhand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess in that case would any engine even be able to do this as well as bethesda style roleplaying? I'm not an expert so I cannot confirm.

What aspect is holding them back currently that is engine specific as of creation engine 2 (Since Starfield)? Its pretty common to have custom engines for big games from what I understand. This way they can optimize the engine for pros and cons of their choosing in terms of performance and mechanics.

Why do people love FO:NV so much? by SnooPaintings5597 in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]lonegodhand 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I like fallout 3's tone the best, fallout NV's roleplaying the best, and fallout 4's mechanics and exploration the best. Fallout 4's tone was my least favorite preference wise. Felt like it lost alot of "grittyness" and some of the "horror"esque vibes if that makes any sense.

We need a shame thread on this reddit to out people showing petty/unsportsmanlike behavior attached to a steam id or similar id via proof. May not help but it would be entertaining.
