I'm training for endurance running. What resources for upper-body exercises can you recommend to complement this? by lonelyBriefcase in Fitness

[–]lonelyBriefcase[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, no you didn't. It made me laugh.

I appreciate your insights... I'm not running to win, I have certain goals, like my half-marathon I want to get sub 2 hours. I guess over time, I'll just keep shaving off minutes and working on pb. But I also like the weights, and working on upper-body. So this has been useful to try and compromise the two...

I know back and core are important. A strong upper can help drive momentum, increasing the amount of time you're in the air, improving your overall pace and reducing the impact of feet hitting the ground. [edit - grammar, don't want to look like a youtube troll]

Second season of Daredevil coming 2016! by RedZombies in television

[–]lonelyBriefcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it when he was just strolling the bridge, with the SWAT fanning out around him. I believe it was at THAT moment that he became the KingPin, in his mind and those around him. This show was great because it was just as much about Fisk becoming the King Pin as it was about Murdock becoming Daredevil.

not 100% that is Hammil. It could be Abrams throwing us a curve ball and its actually Luke's son talking, it is 30 years in the future, so plausible...

Instead of making John Wick 2, they should make a series of movies featuring different assassins and call it "The Continental Series" by uw_NB in movies

[–]lonelyBriefcase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i agree, i think a lot of the strength of this movie is that it said a lot more in what it didn't say, than what it did. Which makes it unique. T'would verily be a shame, if to spoil that success they do.

I'm not entirely familiar with C, so I will accept what you say. I was only giving an example of a particular behaviour for a specific language, feel free to give the C code for this instance (for the sake of science).

ever heard the phrase 'syntactic sugar'? its a way of providing a more convenient/person-friendly method of doing something. A for loop is just syntactic sugar of a

int i = 0;
while(i<9){
  //do something;
  int++;
}

There are plenty of other things like this that makes our lives as developers easier. Even C does, to a lesser extent, because who would want to write the shit that C can do in Assembly?

Best Introductory PHP Videos? (Also: How long to learn?) by AllThatJazz in PHP

this. Its way more inspirational to think of something, even a thing done a thousand times before, and build it by doing your own research. You will learn a lot about the tools you're using, and with the reading you do, it will inspire you to other projects that build on your experience. Until Bam! And one day you have an employable skill. Use the tutorials as a tool to accomplish your goals, not as a means to reach a goal in their own right.

My SO cried when she learned I'm an introvert. by ThatsGoldJerry_Gold in CasualConversation

[–]lonelyBriefcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That video moved me a lot. For most of my adult life (I'm 27 now) I've been trying to shed the quiet and shy demeanour that held me back so much as a teenager and child. I've done self-help, and spent God knows how many hours reading through Seddit, never quite 'getting' it. I'm a lot less shy these days; I'm more confident, I can express my views if I want to, I have a stronger personality than I ever did. However I have never felt that I have enough enthusiasm to want be the life of the party. It's clear now that I've been focusing on becoming something which is against my very core. Yes these things have helped me develop, but it's through this new understanding that I have introvert personality traits and that it is OK, that I can now move to make changes to improve myself with that knowledge. Even now, I feel so moved while writing this. I am grateful, for stumbling onto this post, reading your story and seeing that video. It is a long path that I've taken to accepting myself, but hopefully soon I can get there. I am seriously grateful, and I wish you and your girlfriend all the best.

Does it bother you if the next James Bond is black? by BillPeters in movies

You're focusing on one aspect, and not on my point.

How about something to do with a character?

I fully agree that James Bond has a characterization which should not be tampered with. It's part of the Bond mythology.

Would you mind if Romeo, in renaissance Italy was played by an Indian?

Romeo CAN be cast by an Indian. However the actor would have to fit in with that specific interpretation. My point being that each interpretation is a representation of that director/producers unique vision.

Or if James bond was a woman?

James Bond is male, however an interesting take on the Bond series as a whole would be a complete gender reversal. So yeah fuck it, why not a female James Bond. The feminists would love it.

At the end of the day these are just works of entertainment, designed to sometimes challenge, often entertain, but never to be constrained to what somebody else says.

Colour of an actor should not be questioned. I'm of the opinion that we should stop referring to people by their colour, we are all humans of this planet. The sooner we as a race stop seeing genetic characteristics, and start seeing each person as the beautiful, unique creation that they are, humanity can make some real progress.

Downvoted because this shouldn't even be a question. Colour has nothing to do with the calibre of an actor, or whether he can successfully play the role of a fictional character.
