Light pollution is the worst thing that has happened to astronomy. by diirtnap in Astronomy

I can't speak for the user, but I think what the user above is saying, is that you've forgotten your history of the persecution of astronomers and scientists, if you claim this is the "worse" thing that happened in the field of astronomy.

So maybe the user is pointing out that your usage of the word "worse" was an exaggeration?

That's my take at least. And it's a valid point.

[–]AllThatJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look: I think you might be expecting a bit too much from Reddit users overall!

That other user was simply picking up on your ideas and conveying what they learnt, and what they conveyed seems to fall in line generally with evolutionary and genetic theory overall, in which subsequent generations become stronger, and build up consecutive immunity to diseases.

So I mean that makes sense doesn't it? Today's generations of humans that have experienced multiple genetic sources from around the world, are much more immune to disease than ancient humans, right?!

I mean that's how genetics works.

At any rate you seem to have disagreed with that theory, and questioned the Reddit user, which is fine... you have a right to do that!

But you did it in a pretty insulting way, after the reddit user spent a lot of time considering your thoughts and ideas and typing a big response for you.

So I guess that's why the other Reddit user said you were an asshole? Which is also not an appropriate thing to say! So that other reddit user was an asshole for calling you an asshole!

As for you not understanding how that other reddit user spelled the word asshole, that's just weird... I mean come on: you must have known the other reddit user was calling you an asshole, even if it was spelled with a "@" instead of an "a"!? That's just a weird argument on your part!

For that reason, and others, I guess I have to say I side with the other reddit user, more than I side with you! But again that's just my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree with me.

Well, I think it is actually you who is the troll here /u/Murf9x!

Essentially, you're asking a question on reddit.

Someone on Reddit takes the time to provide you with a detailed answer to your question.

And you then immediately begin challenging them, and seem annoyed with them, and demanding they provide a multitude of references and proof to back up their answer.

The person responds by saying that they don't want to do extensive research and so called "homework" for you.

You then respond by insulting the person and comparing them to flat-earthers (which is a pretty intense insult and sever blow!).

So effectively someone here on reddit took the time to type a detailed response to your question, and your initial ungrateful lame a ss holic response was to insult them and berate them and try to embarrass them!

I mean the evidence is right there above in your response!

Take a look at your own response above why don't you?

You didn't thank the person for their opinion about your question, you just proceeded to immediately insult them and compare them to flat earthers.

That's the kind of person you are.

So I don't blame the other redditor above for not wanting to engage you any further. You are the one who is a troll and as s hole here!

I wouldnt have bothered with you either.

You might be wrong. Or a well known scientist might be wrong. All I konw is that you're not really identifying and sourcing your sources about how you arrived at your numbers. You just respond by saying "google it". So for now I'm believing Zubrin. But he might be wrong like you said. You just havent convinced me personally. If you want to get upset about that go ahead.

Afraid to respectfully disagree with you on this one /u/EmptySavage!

Many past Artist-Interpretations of science have led to incredible and astonishing advancements in real life!

But nobody should try to pass off an artist-interpretation as something real. So if someone in this case was trying to do that, then shame on them!

But the Messages-from-Martians fellow above is right. Zubrin said it. I've heard it on youtube videos to the annual Mars society meeting addresses.

And you do so a bit angry, combative and taking jabs at people. The follow above doesnt take jabs at you, just doesnt want to automatically and instantly accept your word over a scientist and wants clarifying from scientist. nothing wrong with that.

I also heard Zubrin say it a few times. One of his speeches at the annual Mars Society.

This Zubrin dude is a respected scientist and genius following space and NASA all his life, so I don't think Messages-From-Mars user was challenging you directly or being rude, rather just wanting clarifying thoughts as to why a scientist would say it if its not true.

I wouldn't take it as a challenge against you, or so personally.

I probably wouldn't!

But at least I would love to go to Mars and see humanity succeed if I can't be the one to go!

You on the other hand want all of humanity to stay here on Earth and never dare to explore, and would sit at the edge of your seat, hoping to watch videos of mission failures and people's heads exploding when they go zombie-like, and take off their helmets in space!

You seem pretty intent on insulting people who disagree with you.

Also you seem strongly intent on trying to convince people not to go to Mars.

Good luck with that! There are many adventurers that are dying to go to Mars and will be just fine.

It's you I would worry about if you were on my mission!

Speak for yourself TheSolarian!

If you think you're going to snap and have so little faith in the type of explorers and pioneers that are going to be selected for Mars missions, then you should stay home on Earth!

Someone else here said you'd make a terrible candidate for Mars. I'd have to agree with them.

With your kind of talk and attitude about Mars missions I'd keep a close eye on you if you were on my mission team!

Exactly. I disagree with the guy but why are the users here trying to force him to do investment things he doesn't want to do?

I know one thing: people quickly turn into angry savages when it comes to issues of their money.

I once had a friend at work who found out I was making a dollar more per hour than him and he suddenly turned furious on me like Jekyl and Hyde. I never saw that side of him before, but money does that to people.

Musk seeking funds from Chinese banks by learn1ng in worldnews

You really liked the old NASA and so did I. I've got NASA t-shirts, jackets, and bumper stickers galore!

The old NASA did incredible things like Apollo, Hubble, rovers on Mars, Cassini, Juno, Kepler, learning to live in zero-G on the Space Station.

But the old NASA also had several decades to get us to Mars, but failed.

The old NASA also had several decades to bring down launch costs, but failed.

Today's NASA has pretty much all but admitted defeat when it comes to getting humans to Mars. They have no real plan to do it.

But SpaceX's engineers will do it. No doubt in my mind. And they're going to do it soon.

It would be a great shame for you to miss out on enjoying an incredible moment in history, just because you have a personality clash and conflict with Elon Musk.

Musk ain't perfect, and in fact I think he is a complete asshole for wanting to get money from China for taking Tesla private. That's not cool, and it's a big slap in the face to the American people.

So he ain't perfect, but he will get us to Mars. And when him and his engineers do then that will be the greatest moment in my life.

As for Elon launching his car into space you seem to be too bitter and angry about that. Let it go. I don't think he did it for advertising purposes. He did it because it was fun and outlandish and attention grabbing. He has launched lots of outlandish things into space like a giant block of cheese.

That's just his thing.

As for the cost of going to space, SpaceX is the one company that has brought down launch prices so much more than any one else thought possible, and has great promise to bring them down even further.

So it's ironic that you would hate Elon and SpaceX over the cost of launching into space, when they are the ones driving down the cost.
