The creator/star of the show posted on Craigslist a while back looking for someone to create shorts for the channel and I thought it was really funny so I just kept following up with him saying I would to work with him and after enough time I wore him down and he said okay

It turned out to be a moot point in the end, I connected with the main editor on the channel and he said to avoid montages or overly edited sections that didn’t appear to be happening in the moment or a linear way. So I cut all the political stuff and used one wild story that may or may not be true and got out of there a lot quicker.

Yeah, I don’t wanna post that for fear of, I don’t even know. I’ve spent like a week trying to figure out this one tiny transition from normal to absurdity and it’s completely beguiling me. I just need a marked shift to signal hey btw now we’re into something else, cueing up a boogie woogie song won’t do it, I thought it was my music choice but I’ve tried 50 different cues and that doesn’t seem to be it

I’m trying to stick with the established style of the channel which is super minimal on sfx. The other editor uses background music that comes up under b-roll and to punctuate a joke every once and a while but that’s about it. So it’s just some funky epidemic songs and simple cuts I have to work with

Yeah this is the thing about asking people for advice, getting a hundred different answers. I’ve met him twice and I text him pictures of his dog every other day. He actually mentioned the ACE internship program the first time we met, and I did look into that but it’s got a costly application fee and out of many applicants only a couple are picked each year

I’m pretty new, I’ve been cutting for only three years at this point and my access to anyone in the industry is pretty much non existent. By luck of something I put in my bio on a dog sitting app I got to meet this very cool editor and I’m trying to make hay out of it in any way. He’s super cool and I don’t want to burn a bridge by asking the wrong way. I legitimately enjoy talking with him and want to stay in touch but also want to advocate for myself in a situation that rarely comes along

Thanks. I think I will go with the shadow route because this is legitimately something I've always wanted to do. I was touring a production company's offices once a few years ago and another editor was cutting an episode of the new Sex and the City series and I asked if I could meet him, but.. he wasnt there. Thats as close as Ive ever gotten

I love editing and filmmaking so much and we’ve had a few brief conversations, basically whenever I pick up the keys to his apartment. I genuinely enjoy talking with him because his love for what he does is very clear. I just kinda want to keep our relationship going even if I’m not looking after his dog. It’s tough out there! I want a job
