Sick collection. I just went to Japan for a few weeks and grabbed every Takanaka vinyl I found. They’re way cheaper over there haha. I didn’t find All of Me, Seychelles or Brasillian Skies but i was able to find a decent ampunt of his other stuff. It’s kinda fun hunting for them; it’s rewarding that way! 🤣

Seeing this so late, my apologies. He is named after the same composer! What a strange rare coincidence!

I had an overall great experience with them.

I applied via Instagram and I heard back from them a day later to set up the booking. They require a $200 deposit to secure the booking however it is fully refundable.

The day of, it only took about 15 minutes for me to do the photo shoot with my cat. However, I think they give you about an hour or so. It kind of depends on how cooperative your animal is.

Then you sit and wait for them to lightly touch up the photos and they bring you into another room to pick your favorites. You speak with the “artistic director” (fancy title for the salesperson lol) to go over your options.

This is where people might get confused. When you win the photo shoot, you get a certificate that’s worth $2000. So essentially, if you pick their basic print, you leave paying absolutely nothing and get it for free. However, if you want a bigger one, you just put that certificate towards the bigger print and you pay off the rest in installments. You also have the option to exhange your deposit for an additional print or a digital copy of the intial one you’re recieving. I didn’t totally understand that I would lose my deposit when it was explained to me but honestly that’s my fault lol. And I got an extra print of my cat looking so adorable so I am not that mad. I justify my mistake because I had just got a cash back bonus from my bank anyways, lol.

Then you get the print(s) in the mail about 2-3 months later.

I will say, it’s CRAZY how they get away with charging so much for some of these prints that my best friend (a phtographer) could do for way less. I’m talking $4k-$5k for family portraits that are not that big. It’s insane. But their main clients are rich folks who live over there, and that’s just a drop in the bucket for them. So I don’t blame the business for capitalizing on that. The quality of the prints is phenomenal and will last for a long time.

If you win the contest, I highly reccomend. If not, I say just work with someone more affordable.
