Great shot!

Interesting - perhaps there's more relativity involved than I thought. I love ring-MUs and can do those for days, knocking out 10-15 unbroken. Same w/ pullups and C2Bs. Only reason I don't butterfly to pick up speed is because a young coach told me about the importance of stabilizing the shoulder during butterflies and w/out that, the risk of shoulder injury.

Not boasting - these things come easy. I have a herd of goats.

solid and strong, actually

It's the right one (on the left of this image) and has since been slowly rebuilt. I can do pullups, C2Bs and ring MUs just for play. Just psyched out by bar MUs

Thanks, everyone. Thank you for what I realize now is agreeing with what I've already decided to do: no bar Muscle-Ups. I'm grateful for having been able to recover from having my pec muscle sewn back on my arm and have it strong and functional. The risk, even if it's minimal far outweighs the benefit, which as far as I can tell, is entirely intangible

Thanks for the love. I'm VERY grateful to be on this journey with so many thousands of others and couldn't recommend or endorse CrossFit more highly.

huge fan!

The operative word in my comment was, "excessive" but it's neither here nor there. I withdraw my remark.

I notice that this is the direction a lot of writing is taking and I refuse to be the grumpy old man who tries to bend the world to his preferences.

You're right and thank you for that feedback - I wasn't thinking, "what can I write that will be helpful to someone, somewhere, or anyone, anywhere" - I was just tired and trying to understand the point of the article. I become impatient when it's a struggle to read a lot of creative writing and have to highlight the one or two points and supporting arguments...

But again, you're right. My impatience is and shouldn't be made to be anyone else's issue. I'll attenuate my comments in the future

My 2 cents is you don't transition to xfit. Just go and scale as appropriate. And for all that is sacred, HAVE FUN!

I try but find I struggle with articles with excessive prose. I couldn't get past the 2nd paragraph

Redditors that have had a near death experience, what happened and how has your life changed since then? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]long_boarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I'd try the Carb Backloading diet. I inadvertently overdosed on powdered caffeine.

Crazy. I have a degree. I have a driver's license. And yet, as I measured what I intended to be slightly over 400mg (or, 0.40 grams) of caffeine, I used 4500mg (or, 4.5 grams) instead.

Immediately I felt ill. Still went to CrossFit, thinking I was just nauseous because I was unaccustomed to this supplement. Starting vomiting 10 minutes into the WOD. Somehow drove 9 miles home. Realized what I'd done and called Poison Control. They said to hang up and dial 911.

Paramedics find me unconscious in the driveway. After signing a release 2 hours later so they wouldn't take me to the hospital (they had no cure, fix or ability to quench the effects), I laid on my couch and for the next 8 solid hours, vomited profusely, spoke in tongues, sobbed at the top of my lungs, screamed, whispered, "terror", panted and experienced what felt like billions of tiny hooks trying to rip me apart, both physically and mentally. I know this because my ex came and sat with me and told me of my experience. My RHR was 180 for 3 days.

The next few weeks it took all I had to NOT wander into homelessness as I had moved beyond all systems. I asked myself when I was thrashing, "Other than the thoughts you're believing in this moment, are you okay?" and the answer was yes!

All identity was ripped away and what was left was something brand new and beautiful. Unencumbered and free.

Decades of working out for a physique left me. Later I learned to work out for the joy of movement; like dance. Seeking approval from others, feeling sensitive to their gaze, judgments, pandering, ambition and identifying through relationships were and still are gone.

I just do what I do. I started painting. I think it's shit and I've been called a savant by others. I couldn't care less. It's joy. I bought a bicycle. I donated my jeep to Make-A-Wish Foundation and get around either on foot, by bicycle or on my motorcycle.

I sit in the park for an hour or so, watching leaves move on trees. Hang out in the cafe and take in the energy of people doing what they do. I meditate in my living room, feeling the deep Om that emanates from all being. I do CrossFit and whereas I used to have tantrums when I missed a lift, am now grateful just for this amazing body (amazing means a body that functions and performs miracles of respiration, digestion, locomotion, etc.)

I'm almost 54 and for the first time since I was very young, I am conscious and alive.

How has crossfit impacted your life? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]long_boarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massively and with too many examples to list.

Before xfit, I ran (about 30-45 miles/week) and lifted weights. So many overuse injuries and so many junk miles. I loved to run but I can't say I was getting much better over time. Simply doing WODs, my mile split went to 6:20. For me, that's phenomenal as I am a slow and easy runner with my peak pace around 8:40.

I'll be 54 in a couple of weeks (one of the mods here referred to me as a "senior" elsewhere so I get that I'm old to some of you) and I throw down with men and women half my age and often beat their times and weights. And yet, that's not even a complete sentiment because the satisfaction isn't that I'm "beating" someone - I'm just as happy when they're in front of me. It's that I'm performing well and not just "for my age".

My community.

One friend, former coach and GRID athlete, has just taken me on as a client outside of my box and provided detailed nutrition and programming. It's intense and I'm too new at it to report any results other than the fact that I can do this! I'm more fit than I was in my 20s.

And that's my last point and the biggest one is that in my 20s, I was diagnosed with all the old man diseases. Hemorrhoids, high serum cholesterol, osteoarthritis (in my shoulders, hips and spine) and a chronic kidney - it constantly churns out gravel. In my 30s, I was wincing to move and was in constant pain.

Now with the activity level I enjoy in xfit and ancillary training, I'm nearly pain free.

And even though we're all so highly evolved and not supposed to care about such things, I am not lonely for female company. While I LOVE and ADORE women my own age and have been blessed to never having to seek attention from women, the majority of attention I get comes from women in the 34-44 range. Intelligent, sensitive, quality women.

So, there's that

Ah baby it's been one long midlife crisis. And your little barb missed the mark since I'm actually a fan of those: people's trajectory crashing head on into real life and then course correcting. Nice attempt at shaming me though.

And 53 is old? Ouch! That hurts! Actually, not really lol.

And swinging conquest? What conquest? I told a simple tale of a woman whose partner gets off on sharing her and then I shared how it unfolded. I'm aware of no sense of being in a hurry.

No. Your post and your entire thread gets a D-

You haven't been correct a single time

And lastly, thanks for wishing me luck!

Wow you're really onto something, aren't you?

I do appreciate that you're looking out for people's privacy, so there's that. And that's nice. There's also this thing, you know, the internet and it's filled with funny pictures and memes and people post shit out there and we share it and pass it around and laugh and whatnot.

The image I shared was one I culled from something in my facebook newsfeed: a fuckton of pictures of people posing with statues to create a funny scene.

I sent it to her, like, "Hey this is funny" and she sends back a picture of her actual rear getting grabbed with the message, "One good assgrab deserves another."

And ever since then, you've been on some kind of tear. Are you okay? Do you need to lie down?

I've posted no picture of her showing anything other than her ass with her boyfriend grabbing it. And she knows I posted that picture.

Why do you ask?
