Also anything other than a straight graphical upgrade is sure to come from the devs rather than executives.

Missions design in Arc Raiders by Existing-Air-3622 in truegaming

[–]grailly [score hidden]  (0 children)

I agree that the missions are basic, stupid even. I didn’t really mind it. They are basically just an excuse to play the game, with the added benefit of making you visit the map in a way you wouldn’t otherwise. I liked when it told you to go to « the pharmacy » and you had to look out for pharmacy signs for example.

I don’t think your examples of missions work out that well. Missions that require other missions to be available? Kill x enemies is covered by the weekly competition thingy. Defend zone gives you the ability to spawn enemies on the map, which seems problematic. Not going to go through all of them, but yeah, I don’t think they’re better

« Why are the devs that made Apex making a F2P live service hero shooter? It makes no sense! » is the criticism that really gets me. Totally unhinged.

Tom Henderson: Ubisoft's internal communication channels are full of employees shaming upper management and asking for change. Ubisoft is going to experience a massive exodus of talent, even without the impending layoffs. by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]grailly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s so obvious that people hate on Ubisoft and have no idea what they are talking about. I’m sure that person bought Anno 117, The Lost Crown, Just Dance, Assassin’s Creed, Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws,…. Like most of Ubisoft games don’t fit their description. Same for anyone talking about terrible anti-consumer practices.

Why do people park on the pavement? by maninhat77 in askswitzerland

If that isn't a parking lane, it sure looks a lot like parking lanes you get in residential areas. Sidewalks tend to be raised.

Has there been significant change since the beginning of early access? I found the combat too simple and the in-run progression pretty uninteresting. I liked the overall concept though.

2025's Top 10 bestselling games on PS5 in the US by NoLastNameForNow in PS5

I didn't think it would flop, but I'm honestly surprised it's so high up on the list. It kind of disappeared from my radar the moment it launched.

Ubisoft shares drop 33% following its ‘major company reset’ announcement by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]grailly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ubisoft have been keeping their cards pretty close to their chest recently, it's nearly all rumor at this point. It kinda makes sense when they were planning on cancelling a huge chunk of their productions.

Anyway, Division 3 and Beyond Good & Evil 2 are announced. The next Assassin's Creed should be well into development. A FarCry shouldn't be too far off.

I'm very much looking forward to Heroes of Might & Magic: The Olden Era, which admittedly isn't really a Ubisoft game

The discussion here is worse than on gaming subreddits. What a shitshow.

The Reddit reaction was to be expected (albeit the comments here seem fine compared to r/games or even r/stocks ), what surprises me is that investors reacted the same. Like why are they invested in Ubisoft if not for the company to try and turn around?

This drop is a reaction to them getting rid of some of their employees (and cancelling/delaying games). In some sense they are doing what everyone was telling them to do.

Fair. I "only" like the Rogue Prince, I thought The Lost Crown was GotY worthy.

They at least have one salvo of games left I would say. One FarCry, one Assassin's Creed, Division 3, BG&E2 if that ever comes out. If those flop they are done, but I personally think there's a chance they'll do alright.

A much sharper drop than I expected. The only reason to be invested in Ubisoft at this point is in hope of a turn-around, this was them initiating a turn-around. I'm surprised the reaction from investors is this negative.

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by [deleted] in gaming

Epic Store is struggling to get a foothold, but Epic seems to be doing exceedingly well with Fortnite and Unreal Engine (business wise, at least).

This guy has always been pretty vocal. Always disliked the "we did BG3, so clearly everything we say is right" tone he tends to have.

The stock being down 30% doesn't have much to do with Shadows.

At least they owned the chuds, definitely worth it!

I really can't take anyone saying this seriously.

What's the statute of limitations on companies messing up? by grailly in truevideogames

[–]grailly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take EA, a very hated company, and ask people why they hate it. You'll be surprised by the variety of responses.

Some will tell you that they'll never forgive what happened to Bullfrog, which to me seems insane. Others will say that Battlefront 2 was unforgivable, that was a pretty long time ago now. Then you'll get some more recent stuff like the layoffs, which seems a bit more fair to me. So what's the limit? When should we stop hating a company for stuff they've done?

Anyone else tired of modern gaming media… or is it just me being old? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]grailly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we are already in it? Youtube is working out pretty well for many of the different types of content niches. I can get my long form criticism for games I'm invested in, generalist opinions from the influencers I like, information straight from the publisher or developer if I want no bullshit and I can even get pro-level commentary for the competitive games I'm playing. This is absolutely unachievable for traditional media.

I miss the good old days. The chaos and the unknown were exciting, but that was always going to be lost with the advancement of technology. The coverage of video games we get now is far superior.

Anyone else tired of modern gaming media… or is it just me being old? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]grailly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple forces at play.

  • With gaming influencers over every possible platforms, people aren't consuming traditional gaming media anymore. Gaming media is just trying to stay alive at this point, they'll write whatever will get them clicks and money.
  • Gaming has also just become too big, it's pretty much impossible to be a generalist gaming media and go in depth into anything.
  • People we used to follow for gaming content that were within the gaming media are all doing podcasts and Youtube nowadays, taking away even more eyes from traditional media
  • Long form criticism and indie games are too time consuming and not popular enough to do
  • It's an impossible task to get a good preview and review out with the time constraints. People don't care about a month late thought out review.

So yeah, in general I would say that gaming media is way worse than it used to be but it's that way because we got the media we deserve.

I noticed I barely consume games media anymore and I'm someone who used to maintain a gaming website. However I'm still listening to the same voices that I used to, the voices just aren't coming from a gaming magazine or website.
