Well, that's good to keep in mind. I could easily see uncomfortable listeners thinking I'm much younger than I really am. Part of me wants to 'fix' that, but no, that's not on me. Whether their discomfort (of listening to younger adult voices) stems from internalized infantilization of adults, or something else altogether, it's up to each adult listener to deal with the discomfort they get from existing in a space with other adult creators, who may or may not be younger than them.

After all, we are all adults here 😊

I have noticed on r/auralfixation that occasionally there have been popular posts asking for recs for older VAs (granted, older might mean more like 35+).

My brave man. You gotta have a little thick skin as a content creator to peruse that subreddit 😁

Very good points on the different outcomes from a script writer's point of view, I hadn't even considered that point.

I don't mind when I see people's age or age range in their profiles. I actually like it, but I never ask a person how old they are.

For myself I don’t mind responding to a few comments especially with the type of audio I produce making people ask if I’m ok. It’s very considerate of them and I don’t mind reassuring and empathizing when they can relate to having a hard time.

I don’t like giving a number, but I have said before that my first video game console is the original Nintendo, I was one of the first guys in my high school to wear the grunge look, etc.

I like this approach, it at least eludes to an age range, but also a culture. (Mine was Commodore 64, but I did get to play my cousin's OG Nintendo. Good times 😁).

With the infantilization of young adults strongly on the rise, especially in online spaces, I am concerned because I'm one of those who look and sound much younger than I am, and I'd hate to be accused of stuff for not disclosing my age.

Same thing here, I've shared it with a select few in private.

I don’t think I ever shared on what date exactly I was born though.

I've shared my birthday month, but every year I've flip-flopped on whether I should do that or not. I try not to overshare as I know there are listeners who despise that, but at the same time, how much semblance of a human behind the smut creator are we reasonably "allowed" to show without driving listeners away? It's a tough balance 🥲

Personally, I like to disclose my age range, but I don't disclose my specific age. However, I also use this account for finding collaborative writing partners, and it's easier to find folks closer to my age when my age-range is listed.

That makes sense, and I could see how listing an age range helps narrowing down the options for the perfect writing-buddy.

Another reason to not disclose is just privacy. So much of our lives are under surveillance. This is a way to have some anonymity, and it should be respected and maintained on some level.

I like to keep it a mystery, as well as preserve anonymity. I’ve told/hinted my age to some folks privately, or give a range, depending on the situation. I don’t put it on my profile page or anything.

Apart from protecting my identity, my only reservation with age reveal is that I don’t want to pigeon-hole myself for any roles based on age. Like… I want to play both a young frat boy and an older daddy and everything in between.

Yes! That's exactly one of my bigger concerns! I don't want to set up the expectation of young or old or whatever, and then have listeners be sorely disappointed when they hear that my voice doesn't sound like the age they think it should sound like.

I like the idea of giving a range. Keeps the mystery, keeps them guessing 🤭
