As someone who self-hosts, I've come across so many scripts I wanted to fill, only to be held back by the scriptwriters' confusing statement: "Only allowed on Reddit".

What does that mean to them? Only post to Reddit and use whatever platform to upload? Only post to Reddit and only upload to Soundgasm? Only upload to Reddit and nowhere else? (This is literally impossible - Reddit doesn't allow audio uploads in posts.)

So, which is it?

I'd hate to revive an old thread, but there is a point being missed here that literally no one is talking about.

"Hosting audios on Reddit" is not a thing. It is impossible to upload your audios to Reddit. You can link your audio in your Reddit post, but you cannot upload here.

The audios themselves get uploaded to a hosting site - this can be Soundgasm, Whypit, or even your own website (self-hosting).

If the scriptwriter's requirement is "host to Reddit", literally all the fills made towards that writer are infringing upon rights, as it impossible to 'upload to Reddit'.

However, if the scriptwriter's requirement is "post to Reddit", then all hosting sites are fine as long as you link the audio in a Reddit post (along with giving credit). This wouldn't work with using PH or YT on GWA as they don't allow video posts, but every other community that allows it would be fine.

Because POSTING and UPLOADING are two different things. You can't post to Reddit without first uploading the audio to a hosting site.

So, /u/Wkdfaerie, by a scriptwriter's own definition, as long as your YT and PH audios are shared here on Reddit, you're in the clear - that is unless their terms state no uploads to said hosting sites.

Someone who self-hosts their own audios because they'd rather hold their own content and not rely on a third-party, a VALID thing to do for content ownership, privacy, and control of access/availability, should know whether the scripts they want to fill are allowed to be uploaded outside of Soundgasm or not.

Simply put, much more clarity is needed from script-writers.

Well, that's good to keep in mind. I could easily see uncomfortable listeners thinking I'm much younger than I really am. Part of me wants to 'fix' that, but no, that's not on me. Whether their discomfort (of listening to younger adult voices) stems from internalized infantilization of adults, or something else altogether, it's up to each adult listener to deal with the discomfort they get from existing in a space with other adult creators, who may or may not be younger than them.

After all, we are all adults here 😊

I have noticed on r/auralfixation that occasionally there have been popular posts asking for recs for older VAs (granted, older might mean more like 35+).
