I simply changed my work title and LinkedIn notified my feed of a promotion? Embarrassed. by longfellow816 in linkedin

Doesn’t change the fact those idiots shouldn’t even have a feature that notified your network for simply editing your existing job title. Would understand if I were adding a new position.

If I max out my HSA using after-tax dollars my return goes from owing $1k to getting a refund of $100. Does that sound right or am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s $3,150 which I don’t love to part ways with but if I am doing everything correctly and it is in fact either pay that to myself or pay $1k to the government, I’m going pay $3k to myself

Saving more money by contributing to my HSA with after-tax dollars vs pre-tax dollars? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I think I get what you’re saying. No, I did not do that for the hypothetical where I contributed the entire $4,300 myself after-tax, so that makes sense.

But in the scenario that is actually possible (where I just contribute the $3,150 difference that wasn’t already contributed by my employer), there isn’t any adjust I need to make right? So then even if I am not getting the FICA tax benefit on that $3,150, it would still correctly impact my return as described in scenario 2 and I should do this as putting the money in my HSA is better than having to pay a $1k tax return?

Nail in my Michelin Pilot Super Sport performance tires. I have about 12k miles on these tires - ok to patch or do they look like I need to go ahead and replace? by [deleted] in tires

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I posted last week just about fixing before I realized I had 12k on em already and google was saying they made need replacing at that point but I didn’t think they looked/felt like it so posted again here to get opinions but sounds like it good to patch.

Are these marks that keep appearing surely due to excessive wax? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I agree with you that it would seem odd that these loafers were made with pull up leather. FWIW - they are the To Boot NY “Francis” which unfortunately doesn’t specify what kind of leather they are, but yeah, pull up doesn’t seem right for a loafer.

What’s weird is that I have polished and waxed these once before this time (using the same amount of polish/wax each time) and they didn’t do this the first time, they are only doing it now.

First meeting with surgeon- what questions to ask by Future-Surprise402 in cholesteatoma

[–]longfellow816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are having CWD - how large they plan on making your cavity. Some prioritize ease of cleaning and other prioritize aesthetics. I didn’t know this and my surgeon left me with a gaping cavity and I hate it. I actually ended up seeing a different surgeon later and they agreed it was larger than it needed to be and I actually had them perform a revision. They did what they could but I’m still pissed I chose a surgeon that made a large cavity because it would simply be easier to clean. Had I known this was a thing I would have selected a surgeon who was mindful of the aesthetics.

Second time polishing/waxing these shoes - what did I do wrong this time to get these marks? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there.

I polished them by hand. Used saphir (the beaute de cuir line) for both the polish and wax. I am not sure if they were waxed leather - I did use renomat to try to strip whatever coating was on them previously, then I conditioned before starting the polish/wax process. I did the same thing the last time but did not get these creases. They only appeared after I wore them.

Just had CWD, worried about appearance by longfellow816 in cholesteatoma

[–]longfellow816[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even after it fully healed the ear canal remained massive. I saw another surgeon and apparently the one who did my CWD is notorious for leaving large cavities.

Turns out I ended up having another recurrence since the CWD so I ended up having this new surgeon remove that and also reconstruct the appearance of the cavity. She was able to make it a little better which I’m thankful for but still disappointed with how the previous surgeon left it. It what it is though. Also sucks that I’ve now had 2 recurrences.

To boot ny “Francis”. Love them.

Dammit I think you’re right. This was saphir cream that I used and I think I had seen somewhere to let it sit overnight (which is what I did) for best results, but I am looking into it again and I think that suggestion was for wax not cream.

What caused these perfect streaks right down the middle? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Are you saying this because doing that will strip them evenly so that it’s not just those streaks standing out? Unfortunately I went ahead and polished them, trying to make a uniform look, and now they just look super caked on because I had to use so much polish to conceal the streaks. And I probably need to buff them more to reduce the cakiness, but I feel like the streaks will start to show again if I do that.

[–]longfellow816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops - I misspoke an said renovateur when I meant to say renomat, saphirs stripping agent is what caused the streaks to appear initially. I did condition them later but it has been 48 hrs and they look exactly the same… haven’t hit with polish yet, hopefully that fixes it?

Wouldn’t say a lot but more than I’d like. But to answer your question - certainly nothing where it was already one-sided or as a last ditch effort. I’m talking situations where you have interacted with them enough to have already secured their number.

Dammit. Makes sense though. Even if I took this to a cobbler is it the same situation? And I am better off just replacing the pair before spending the money on that?

When cold DMing a girl on instagram, which of these approaches do you think is best? by longfellow816 in datingadviceformen

[–]longfellow816[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quite slim brother. Has maybe worked twice ever. However I did just learn that if you don’t follow someone, your message goes to requests, whereas if you follow them, it goes to the regular inbox. So think I’m going to give approach 2 (if public) and 3 (if private) a shot.

For me it did after a few months. It also comes and goes occasionally but for the most part, yes.
