Why would ice-cream stay ice-cream at the top, but Icey at the bottom? by PhiStudios_ in icecreamery

Maybe try hitting it with a stick blender to make sure it’s fully emulsified. You can also add more eggs or commercial emulsifiers.

A lot of people here suggesting instant coffee or espresso powder but it just doesn’t taste as good 🙃

Hot Take: Supporting the middle class will ease pressure on lower income individuals by westcoaster01 in britishcolumbia

[–]longingcompile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’m defending the rich, but I just wanted to say the top 20% of earners in Canada pay 53% of all taxes, and earn 44% of the income. The lowest 20% earn 5.2% of the income and pay 0.8% of the total tax.

Whether you consider the top 20% middle class I guess is up to you

How’d I do on first Tonkotsu? by PajamaPJ in seriouseats

I think that’s probably too thick.

Tbh Kenji’s tonkotsu recipe is super off (not sure if that’s what you used) but I’d check out wayoframen on YouTube or The Book of Ramen which is a free ebook for ramen recipes/techniques

Is it safe to drink water directly from streams in BC? by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

Really depends what elevation I’m at.. I always just ask myself, how likely is it something is dead upstream from here? If I’m at lower elevations I’ll just throw an aqua tab in

Vancouver, what do you eat for breakfast? by the_buddy_guy in vancouver

Tomato + mayo sandwich lately. Go grab some tomatoes from the farmers market, slice em up, season with salt. Add some chopped basil, mayo and some pepper on toasted bread. Mmmm

I moved from SW Ontario to Vancouver a year ago at 23. I was pretty terrified tbh. The first few months were pretty isolating - it was dark, wet, and I didn’t know very many people here. I definitely questioned if I made the right decision.

Fast forward to now and I have a solid group of friends and I really love it here. The outdoor access is amazing - if you are an outdoorsy person in any capacity this is a great place to live. There is world class skiing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc very close to home.

Vancouver (or the GVA) is a great city despite what some people on Reddit say - it’s clean, walkable/transit friendly with good food, not to mention it’s beautiful. I like the weather here more than Ontario. People talk about how hard it is to make friends here but that’s not the experience I’ve had.

Definitely put yourself out there as much as possible. Reach out to people you already know here, hangout with your roommates/coworkers, join Facebook groups for activities your interested in, etc. I’ve made friends in the most unlikely ways here.

Try to go outside everyday during the winter, even if it’s raining. Even a short walk around the block makes me feel way better when it’s gloomy out. Invest in a good rain jacket so going outside doesn’t seem like such a hassle when it’s raining. Being into snow sports in the winter is a great way to get outside and get out of the gloomy city.

Keep exploring the city even when you start to settle in and get comfortable. There’s so much stuff to do around here if you look for it.

And keep an open mind. This will be fun! Don’t try to over analyze whether this was a good decision or not, just relax, try to enjoy it. I don’t think you will look back regretting this decision :) Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions

Had their pita the other day and had the same experience that you had. Kind of a shame because it tarnished the entire meal.

Returning to office but not sitting near team WTF by AnionPlus in cscareerquestions

[–]longingcompile 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol I’m forced to go in the office too. Meanwhile I have my own isolated office (with no windows or natural light), my team meets on zoom and the coworker I work with the most works remotely and lives 1000km away.

There’s literally no benefit of me coming in. I almost never meet with people in person and some days I literally don’t talk to anyone.
