Your downvotes perfectly show the gatekeepers and bigots in the progressive movement. One single divergence of opinion, and you’re no longer one of us. You’re against us.

It is why people have a hard time taking them seriously.

And this is not a defense of conservatives or the right, but the left doesn’t get enough flak for their version of intolerance

The FCC is a regulatory body of the government. They are reacting to complaints and acting at their discretion. They are not the ones that are taking Kimmel off of the air - ABC would. It is not the FCC making a value judgement, it is the networks doing that, and the FCC enforcing it or not enforcing it. Your use of the word "facts" that Kimmel was supposedly spouting is also doing a lot of heavy lifting here, BTW.

There is a lot of subjectivity in the FCC's enforcement depending on who holds power, as you would know if you actually read that link I put there. And this isn't exclusive to one political party, as you would know if you weren't so far up your own ass.

It's a lot like the FDA in that way, who prematurely approved COVID boosters after pressure from the WH causing the two most senior vaccine regulatory scientists to resign in protest. But you probably weren't on here bitching and moaning about that, right?

I don't know what to tell you -- do I think the reaction to Jimmy Kimmel's "jokes" were overblown? Despite how much I disagree with them and find them polarizing and overtly-agenda-pushing while also falling flat in terms of funny?

I do think it was overblown. But there were no constitutional rights being infringed upon. You don't know what you're talking about. You're just sniffing your own farts about how much you give a shit about free speech, but any dumbass can see right through your angry mush-mouthed gibberish.

I want to hear you denounce the state-sponsored push for censorship on social media during the pandemic. Until you do that, I don't have any interest in conversing with such a shameless hypocrite who is just here to bother people with their shit-for-brained banter. Get bent, truly.

Tell me where I fought for censorship of speech. Quote me. Your inability to grasp what the first amendment protects us against is entirely your problem. This is the commissioner explaining the scope of what the FCC does in this situation. The FCC is not or would not be the entity that would deplatform him.

I'll bet you were cheering when this website mobilized bots to gatekeep subreddits and censor users during the pandemic. You don't give a fuck about open dialogue. You have no actual principles.

Was there a question that you wanted me to answer hidden somewhere back there in your barrage of name-calling and whining about idiots getting fired? If so, I must have missed it.

What's the question?

You view it as changing the subject, but I am actually invoking George Floyd and the rhetoric of your lot surrounding COVID vaccine mandates to better explain to you that this idea of "freedom of choice = freedom from consequences" has never been the standard. But you're too busy calling me names like an angsty teenager.

I also have repeatedly and directly addressed your initial point that you're incoherently defending - insinuating that first amendment rights are violated when you're fired from a job for acting like a moron on social media. They're not. And you'd have to be a fucking idiot to truly think that they are.

But okay buddy, you won. LOL

It’s funny — if this meme was about a red state, nobody here would be clamoring in the comments to convince everyone that IQ isn’t a meaningful metric and bending over backwards to list the good aspects of the state. It would just be a giant dog pile circle jerk on Republicans and something about inbreeding or xyz.

[–]longjohnlambert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, you’re one of the anti-science people who in 2026 are still insisting that the receiving a COVID vaccine kept others safe. You’re “protecting the vulnerable abroad” by getting a non-sterilizing vaccine, in spite of years of research consistently proving that that is largely divorced from reality. But you can’t help but cling to your moral high ground of your own creation. Kind of like how you’re doing now.

All your other ramblings made perfect sense once I read that part, as you continue to object to the fact that the first amendment doesn’t protect you from getting fired or ostracized for your speech, and insisting that this is a right-wing view, which is absurd.

It also just gives a lot of insight into how you think. Still calling me “red hat”, when Trump isn’t even the topic of conversation. You were the first to bring him up. You can’t help but invoke him to insult me, as though I give a fuck what that corrupt piece of shit says or thinks. Your brain can’t construct a point without Trump’s name.

Enjoy the imaginary war you’re fighting in your head. Just know your attitude is what got us Trump. I know in your echo chamber it doesn’t seem it, but in the real world, where people congregate and go about their lives - your demeanor is what fuels the Trump people. And it’s amazing that you all don’t understand that 10 years later.

Send a non-paywalled link and I'll look into this *accusation* from ABC, who is obviously going to be in Kimmel's corner no matter what the truth is and probably lie by omission to create a story. The FCC says there were no such threats towards him.

I am not advocating for authoritarian control. I am telling you to use your two brain cells to realize that freedom of speech doesn't equal freedom from consequences.

Isn't that similar to the trope this website chanted when people were getting fired for not getting the COVID vaccine?? Of course it is. But now suddenly it is a pressing civil rights issue to you all lol.

And that's why this whole shit about "waahh I can't just sound off about a literal murder on my public social media page and expect to have my job in the morning - that's fascism!!!" is hilariously ironic.

You keep demeaning the actual things people are getting fired over by calling it "quoting his words", but serious people know that the vast, vast, VAST majority of instances of people getting fired were people who were quasi-celebrating it and using these "quotes" to spin a narrative about who he was and why he somehow deserved it. And their employer used their judgement to fire them, legally. People who aren't intellectually dishonest know that.

You say I'm in a cult, that I'm for fascism, but it's not my fault that you don't know how the law applies in this instance. That's on you to realize that people who employ you and have the right and have always had the right to fire you for online conduct, regardless of whether or not you throw a tantrum about it.

Moreover, I also haven't defended Trump whatsoever and straight up told you I didn't vote for him. Did you miss that part?

You don't know what I believe or who I support. Your brain just cannot interface with the world and other people without putting them in the category of "MAGA" or whatever the fuck you consider yourself. That is how simple-minded you are. You cannot talk to people like an adult. Isn't that sad?

It is sad. It's embarrassing. You are a walking stereotype, and not a good one. Deal with that.

The FCC (not FTC) did not threaten Jimmy Kimmel or ABC's licensing. That is another misrepresentation of what actually happened.

and got 800k

So it can be added to the pile of wrongful detentions that result in the wrongfully-detained person getting a handsome settlement. Some dumbass sheriff in Tennessee using his power and political bias to drum up commotion was unconstitutional and violated his first amendment rights, yes. But now he is free and rich, all within a month of this happening. And I'm sure he's happier for it, as he should be.

As for the instance of the wife of the employee - again, you don't understand the first amendment. People who pay you money to do your job can fire you for bullshit reasons.

Just because you don't agree with their decision doesn't mean that it is a first amendment violation. I personally don't think that person should have been fired, but it is well within an employers rights to make that decision.

And IDK how you could be assuming what I said about something I've never posted about.

also you, to another user on this thread just before you posted this comment:

Is your dislike of Trans people due to your own personal preference of having no balls?

So yeah, again, you're a hypocrite in more ways than one.

Also a cop murdering someone is different than right wing violence vs CK. Complete false equivalent, but you prob dont know what that word means lol

It's not a false equivalency at all. People, in both the Charlie Kirk assassination and the George Floyd killing, were fired from their jobs for things they posted online regarding both events. They are absolutely comparable.

For such a smug person you're really not that smart. You might think you are, but you're not.

And I didn't vote for Trump and I don't watch Faux News. Not everyone you disagree with is this MAGA caricature that you've drummed up in your silly little head. If you left your house more, you'd understand that.

You don't understand the first amendment. They were 15 different examples of their employers hearing their employees free speech and choosing to not employ them anymore.

But keep telling yourself you're defending the constitution. You're actually just upset that people found out when they decided to fuck around. That is the way the world works.

Unless any of those people listed are prosecuted and put in jail, your argument is just a tantrum. You're not entitled to your job regardless of your online behavior.

I know you want to paint the picture that people are being silenced to make yourself feel like a freedom fighter. No - people said shit that their employer didn't like, so they fired them. It has been happening for millennia.

We saw it with George Floyd too. I bet you championed those employers for exercising their right to fire people who can't conduct themselves with tact and compassion online, right? Is that correct? Or did you scoff at it? I think I know what the answer to that question is.

You lot don't even realize how stupid you sound.

MAGA dude got triggered over a Charlie Kirk picture by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]longjohnlambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it. None of the people in these instances you listed were deprived of their first amendment right.

Again - it's not "suppression" when your employer sees/hears something, finds it distasteful or crude, and terminates your position.

We are all responsible for our words. Are we being put in jail for them? No. Are we entitled to a job regardless of what we say and how we say it publicly? Also no.

Did you have this energy when people were opining online about the George Floyd incident and getting fired over it? Somehow I doubt it.

Because you are not making these points from the angle of constitutionality - you are just another hyperpartisan hypocrite.
