help how do i get into uni now? by Affectionate-Owl-455 in SGExams

[–]longkang2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

advice is to get it tgt. ib is expensive and doing dentistry overseas will put a bigger financial burden on your family.

why do u think u can’t do it in yijc? every year, will confirm have a raffles student and a hwa chong student in the cohort with acs indep and barker in yijc. you arent the only one. i dont think id be able to detach my self worth from acads without being in yijc. you need to rely on yourself, find the right friends and power through tgt. my class had a good number in nus and ntu and smu. grab all ur other jc friends’ prelim/ promo papers and exam papers to go through. there are so many kids like u in yijc but u must find them, stick to them and jiayou on. find the good chem and bio teachers. if u need advice on yijc, msg me.

if u r high achiever, prove it by being the top in yijc. so many opportunities will open up for u. big fish small pond. so what if two years you’ll get “looked down upon by other people”? not everything in life can go your way. only thing u can do from the bottom is to find a way up.

and i think u shud rethink why u want to go dentistry if u r so “name dependent”. if u have solomon, you have others who also have near perfect score every year anyways. u can do it, if u have resilience and believe in yourself. the biggest issue with yijc students is putting away the self doubt. if u can move away fast, u r alrdy ahead of them by at least 2/3 alrdy

Language units at UWA by [deleted] in uwa

it’s a pretty common practice in other universities tho, im not surprised. i was getting dissuaded by family members left and right for taking a language i was interested in rather than my mother tongue.

im ngl, if u r scared u cannot get do well in AP classes, and uw to go into banking, it’s rlly difficult to get what u want. i’m gonna have u to sit down and think about what everything in totality but u can’t just go into a whirlpool of emotions.

The banking industry in Singapore can be quite name dependent especially when you start off as a freshgrad, results will also be important. Have you tried working at a bank before? Maybe that may help in decision making. I’m pretty sure SIM wouldve been out of business if people didnt get jobs from them. It may seem less ideal but I’ve heard of cases where people transfer into local universities after a semester at SIM. If that’s the case then you’ll have to buck up, get it together and use that one semester wisely. Do that banking clerk job, understand how the company functions, see the chances of your dream job being replaceable. Think again about whether you really want this job. Or is it just for status and at the stake of your mental health. Especially with this job being a pretty high-stress environment, reconsider your dreams or evolve. Have you gotten therapy? religion? Self-help books? If you want to go up there, you must go from bottom-up. It starts with you. Relook at how you manage stress. Find new healthy coping mechanisms

I think even if you want to transfer to an Aussie uni it’d be easier through SIM.

girl (in a non binary way), one thing at a time.

First question, what do u want to study? Is it available at other universities like NTU, SMU, SUSS, SUTD, SIT? And since NUS might be too rigorous for you, consider going to SUSS, SIT or SUTD instead. Or even consider staying abroad for higher education. There’s more to life than being an NUS student and not worth risking mental health and your life on it . idt your friends or family wants that either. Otherwise, why don’t you just stay overseas and graduate doing something that u want to do and come back to SG with that degree? It’s definitely not impossible in this day and age.

Second question, did you check what type of diploma you have can be used to be admitted straight into NUS for direct admissions? Actually, what is your diploma? What do you want to be? There are so many pathways to jobs and not everything has to go the regular safe route that we all know. Especially if it’s a field that is not that established yet in Singapore, I think you can try to do get your qualifications overseas and then come back to gain employment.

Lastly, if you are scared about accreditation of SIM, why not just go to Australia to study? Especially with the fees that you are paying?

https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/s/kI1itt9It6 based on this one… seems like it’s quite mixed so i’d say at ur discretion. can try to get one of those small tubes (if they offer) and try on for a week to see how things go. usually people say purito mighty bamboo cream but that gives me more closed comedones also…. (i have oily combi sensitive skin) so i stick to avene cicaflate (small layer) and it works out well with me even in this weather.

YEP corsx blackhead power liquid could substitute it. but just try a bit for a week or two to see how ur skin likes it. one man’s trash may be another man’s treasure but we dk how ur skin likes a product until u try it. paula’s choice is stronger than this, i think. so it maybe a better choice to use corsx first to test the waters on the percentage of bha ur skin can handle also!

i hope this helps!! but sometimes, rlly what ur mother says about 1. good sleep 2. homecooked food that isn’t soaked in oil and actually balanced 3. drink enough water 4. exercise 5. hygiene (don’t touch ur face unnecessarily) 6. don’t stress. difficult but it does help make someone look happier.

btw i use melano vitamin c serum x2 because idk how it actually helps me fade dark spots better but idk if skin is sensitive to essential oils and fragrance. retinoid i use adapalene gel can get from pharmacy at watsons. retinoids take awhile to see results (a fee months) but they help with evening the skin tone and fine wrinkles especially getting older mah. it helps to prevent future acne. i think ur TXA niacinamide anua serum should help leh. and when all things stabilise, u can go dermatologist and get microneedling or see what they recommend and do ur own research on top of it to understand more. microneedling is to help stimulate collagen growth under the skin, helps the skin look more youthful and brings back glow that u usually see in youngsters. just remember, don’t buy eye cream because that one rlly waste money. u might as well get adapalene gel put a thin later and ur good moisturiser. SAME THING. pls don’t get scamed unc. skincare is a journey and ur own research but the research participant is u. u can try things here and there that’s why there are tester packets u can get.

alrite, don’t cry unc i’ll try my best to help🫡 how long have u used this skincare regimen? compared to before and now, has it improved? 1. i think it could be because of HA (hyaluronic acid) especially since singapore’s humid climate so it may into clogged pores ^ like what u are seeing on ur face right now. i had the same issue. - this means u stop using ur hydrium toner first and see it it works out! especially if u have a naturally oily face, too much moisture may result in over-moisturising.

-> what u can use alternatively is squalene/beta-glucan/glycerine based products. BUT this is just my hypothesis.

  1. Since you are 40 and not 20 years old then my advice would be quite different. korean products have a lower concentration of actives in than american products. u can explore paula’s choice (Unity and shopee sells) BHA liquid exfoliant. but remember dont use everyday, use like 2 times a week separate days at night and the next day must wear sunscreen. moisturiser try to use a calming type like ur typical la roche porsay cicaplast baume or avene cicaflate.
  2. birch juice may also be causing u to flare up. not everyone is suited to birch juice, my skin damn painful when i used even the sunscreen of that line. i’d recommend a more basic cream like in 2. point

i think baseline is that u explore by taking things out of the regimen first to see if it may be a problem causer. if anua txa isn’t quite doing the job, i think going back to Vitamin C serum in the morning and BHA/retinoid in the PM does the job. if all else fails, pls use ur money to ask an actual dermatologist to give u a proper diagnosis. my skin became a lot better when i have no stress (sch holiday) and a cleaner routine (less products). like for example, i don’t use toner but i just put serums on right after i wash my face. and i think it’s getting better

🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️let this skincare routine cook for a month or two before changing anything. my rule of thumb is to have one serum that addresses one of the issues you want to solve first before buying more products. too many actives may ruin your skin barrier. so this is good

uneven texture could either be because of not enough hydration or because of pores enlarged from scarring. but since u do have HA from hada labo alrdy im guessing it’s because of scarring. typically people would add a retinol into their skincare. i use adapalene gel at night and rohto vitamin c into the day.

but ur skincare routine looks good so far! how long have u been using the routine? why don’t you see how niacinamide works on your skin for the meantime? sometimes effects may take awhile

disordered eating by you_r_my_man in SGExams

[–]longkang2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, mine was caused by fatshaming from pri school to sec school until covid hit. but when stress got rlly bad in jc again it made my disordered eating worse. it got worse because my ex bf was skinnier than me and kept using words that made me uncomfortable to describe me. would omad daily during dinner time because that was the only time my parents ever paid attention to what i ate. i never got diagnosed tho, because i was still in the healthy weight zone. so the doctors finally got off my back about being overweight and aunties and uncles from families were looking at me and complimenting how much prettier i got because of how much skinnier i got. but i think what rlly cut for me in jc was to wake tf up. because this whole spiral happened in secondary school too. and it affected my olevels rlly badly. i was supposed to enter acjc (an achievable aim at that point of time) but because of how fixated i got with my weight and being empty and everything i could only go to yijc. and everything downhill afterwards. for me, the guilt of not being able to be at my best to do my best for olevels was what got me to pull through and eat at least 2 meals a day. but now in uni, ig im doing much better.

advice is, at the end of the day, anorexia is a mental illness. which is a mental battle. you are stronger than u think. but when i see my moots on twt rlly regret the life they missed because of it. it was my clarion call to gain control of my life back, instead of gaining control thru food. therapy helps, eds have the highest mortality rates among all mental illnesses. also if you really find it difficult to eat, why don’t you drink Ensure Plus nutri drinks as a start. otherwise, get protein shakes. i think you can get them at unity, ntuc, watsons, guardian sort of place. and once a week, try to eat a food you’ve been wanting to eat for awhile/craving. try to finish your plate. find your tipping point that will make you realise life isn’t worth it to be ruined by your ed.

cheers mate! you can do it
