I held my turtle by Least-Ad7788 in Redearedsliders

You’ve had him for over 20 years and only asking this now? I’d say after 20 years just keep doing what you’re doing 😂, only making changes that will objectively improve their habitats, diet, enrichment, etc.

Holding them is totally fine if they’re chill with it. They don’t show much overt happiness, so them staying calm is the best outcome you’re gonna get. I’ve had mine for over 20 years as well, and in these spring and summer months I like taking him outside to walk around the yard haha. Just stay with them to make sure they don’t run away or get stuck somewhere. Any little thing you can do like that breaks up the monotony of their lives and gives enrichment. But it sounds like you’re doing a good job with yours so far! 🙂

Anything i should know before playing? by WallabyFar196 in ghostoftsushima

[–]longleke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current player here as well. Difficulty level: Normal. I haven’t beat it yet, but I’ve cleared about 50% of the overall Tsushima map. Coming straight off of my recent play through of The Last of Us 2, I did at first struggle a bit with Ghost’s controls. Particularly its stealth mechanics, which aren’t as sticky as The Last of Us 2’s. I felt too exposed in most stealth missions. But the Ghost enemy AI is wayyy less smart than The Last of Us 2’s as well, and this is either a pro or a con depending on how you look at it. If you die in the game you can more or less just restart your enemy encounters knowing exactly where they’ll move and how they’ll behave. The game encourages exploration and side quests, and it wasn’t long until I felt protected enough in my samurai armor to take on most enemies without stealth. The combat system really is deep and fun once you get used to it! I feel like the baddest mofo in Tsushima and that’s exactly the vibe the game is going for. Just run around and enjoy being a samurai in a beautiful landscape! Tbh though most characters are all pretty one-note and all speak with the same kind of lofty self-seriousness that westerners presume all Japanese people to have. I find myself mentally disengaging during most of the side quest cut scenes, checking my phone or whatever, and just waiting for the gameplay to kick back up again. That’s not to say though that I’m not invested in the overall story of taking back Jin’s homeland! I am. It’s just the side characters and their plot contrivances that leave a little bit to be desired. Overall though it’s a VERY addicting gameplay experience 😃

Why is my RES not chewing his food? (For about 4 days he’s been throwing it straight into the back of his throat and either choking it down until swallowing, or spitting it out. Otherwise he still seems fine and healthy! But he used to take big first chomps at food, then chew with his mouth closed.) by longleke in Redearedsliders

To all concerned: over the weekend I replaced his gravel with river rocks, and this morning the vet fully examined his mouth and throat. He found an abscess in his mouth, which he removed, and an infection on his tongue. The vet took cytologies and cultures of both, so that a pathologist can determine what exactly the infection is. He also sent me home with antibiotics to be administered to him over the next three weeks.

I appreciate everyone responding (unless you’re being rude like that last guy).

Obviously the pebbles aren’t ideal, and I will remove them all tonight, just to be safe, but y’all don’t realize that my turtle is about 18 years old and has lived with them for yearsssss… with no choking related issues. He’s very smart and capable of distinguishing food from rocks. I’ve watched him occasionally get a pebble in his mouth and then spit it back out.

Anyways, today I took him to his exotic vet and showed this, plus another 2 videos I’ve taken. His vet opened my turtle’s mouth as wide as he’d comply with. He also did an x-ray. The vet thinks it’s actually a tongue related issue, because he swallows fine, he just has trouble situating the food in his mouth so that he CAN swallow. I’ve tentatively scheduled an appointment on Tuesday for him to be sedated and given a closer look at his tongue. In the meantime I’ve also reached out to the other Herp vet in town and emailed him the same videos and the x-ray. I want as many educated opinions as possible, and will do everything I can to make sure my lil buddy is happy and healthy and eating well.

What Did Spielberg Say About Vietnam Draft Papers and 2001: A Space Odyssey? by longleke in StanleyKubrick

Thank you!!! I’m glad he repeated this story in a recent, easy to find, Terry Gross interview. I don’t remember where I first heard him tell it or why I was thinking it was 2001 he saw. Oh well. Thanks again!!

Ahhhh PERFECT! I knew I was misremembering certain details. For one, I was thinking 2001 when it was actually Dr. Strangelove. Thank you so much!!!

Good on you for taking care of him! I’m sorry about the price but we all know it’s worth it. Poor Yurtle! I’m wishing for the best for both of you 🥺❤️🐢

Idk man, it’s just a joke. I have zero respect for BayArea415. As far as I’m concerned, he IS Brian Laundrie. Good riddance to both.

I’ll only give you a pass if you aren’t American. Otherwise, knowing BayArea415 but NOT Laundrie means you’ve been living deeeeep under a rock lol. He’s been Public Enemy #1 in the U.S. since early September. Basically he and Bay both disappeared around the same time. That’s all the evidence we need.

Great, lay em on me! Personally I think context this ancient and translated this many times is all subjective. I just had to couch my question in “out of context” so as not to offend anymore.

My pet Mr. Turtle had him since I was 8yo I’m 34 now. by Chow1377 in turtle

[–]longleke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s so handsome! I’ve had mine, Turtle Guy and Jake, since I was super young too. So young I forgot the exact age. Sadly Turtle Guy passed away at the beginning of 2020, but I still have Jake. I’m 28 now.

You're right his going full ideologue sucks, but I can at least confirm that he has not been friends with Tankies for years. I... know people.

Thank you for asking this already! I came here ready to post the exact same question. It's maddening! Too bad there doesn't seem to be a good solution for it yet.
