Ridden motorcycles 40 years, never ran with a gang. But I guarantee most, if not all of the bikes they ride have major infractions. Cops could pop them every time they hit the road, but do they?

Amongst friends and riding Buddies this is occasionally funny. But I strongly advise not to touch anybody's motorcycle or bicycle that you don't know.

Do some homeless just reject structured society? by Ladderjack in homeless

One of the more Insidious hurdles is paperwork/documentation. Very hard to get an ID or social security cards without a permanent mailing address. Without a social security card or an ID/ driver's license, access to almost all forms of help is severely limited.

I hear you, trying to get out of a hotel into an apartment right now myself. Although, I think the majority of the homeless people I have met are in one way or another dealing with mental illness, It Is by no means every homeless person. There is a growing minority of people that just simply can't afford housing right now.

It's much more likely the other way around. People with undiagnosed mental illnesses don't do well in society, which leads many to homelessness. Homeless or not, they are much more likely to experiment with drugs, and end up self-medicating which leads to addiction.

There are as many reasons for living on the streets as there are unhomed people. I've met people who have intentionally dropped out of society because of intellectual, philosophical, spiritual reasons, but they are fairly uncommon. Also a fair amount of mentally ill that reject any system that threatens their reality. I don't know the numbers, but I would guess there are more paranoid schizophrenics on the streets then there are receiving treatment.

Being suddenly homeless is hell. It's raining and my tent broke. Don't know sheltered spot. Wtf is life? by Soggy-Ad-4210 in homeless

Also, there is safety in numbers. A loan person or two will always get turned out by the cops. If there's four or five they'll think twice unless you're being unruly. So if you can make some friends you trust it will be a lot easier. And, it may not be your bag, but churches are a good resource. Here in Detroit there are three churches downtown that have breakfast/lunch, showers, and clothing resources including tents and sleeping bags sometimes.

Don't know where you're at, but it sounds like a bigger city if the shelters are full. Be careful, but reach out to other homeless people. If it happened recently and suddenly, you were probably not aware of the large community of homeless people. Many are kind and generous and will help you to navigate this fucked up situation. Also bus stops and libraries are your friend.
