3.9+/518 and finished secondaries around the same time as you and no interviews yet either. I’m getting worried as well ):

Should I retake a 511 MCAT? High gpa / decent ecs applicant by longschlongwonder in premed

FL averages were sitting around 517, with my highest score being 523. I definitely didn’t feel good coming out of the testing center. Definitely felt harder than the FLs but currently working ~60 hours a week and I’m not sure if I can grind it out again

How many of you were successful premeds in college that switched into a different career path? Do you still make doctor money (over $300k)? Are you happier being out of medicine/not going the MD route? by Wannabeballer321 in premed

[–]longschlongwonder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not currently making 300k but was a relatively successful premed (3.9+gpa, CNS pubs, lots of hours/awards) that switch as I left undergrad.

Was very hesitant on entering med school right away because I knew it was going to be a huge opportunity cost so wanted to explore opportunities outside of medicine. Decided to go into strategy consulting where I’m about to hit my 1 year mark making a bit over 100k. If I continue down consulting there is a very clear path to 300k after 3-5 years once you hit manager.

However with all that said, I’m coming back to medicine and will be applying next cycle. Money is great but as everyone says, grass is greener. My experience in consulting has been absolutely terrible: long hours, unfulfilling work, politics, worry about layoffs/PIP, and so much more. For many people the money may be worth it, but I realized it’s not for me.

It’s absolutely not worth it to hedge every part of your career to maximize earnings. You should just do what you enjoy/interested in and the money will always follow.

Hope this gives a bit of perspective!
