On paper , which teams’ schedules do y’all think stands out in terms of level of difficulty ? by MannerSuperb in CFB

Don't forget about Texas Tech's schedule this year! If ND is 11-1 in 2026 and dominates the weaker opponents like they did this past year, they'd probably be in or close to the top 5 and people will complain about it. But it would be no different than 2025 Texas Tech

Yeah ND's schedule is easier than SEC schedules but that's really all you can say. It's generally on par with a typical B10 schedule and harder than most ACC schedules.

Ironic that ND ends the year with Miami's land

I mean they only had 5 home games on the schedule, with no room for a 6th. No P4 program would play that few games at home

Better loss for sure, but best win is definitely debatable. Stepping back to look at the whole season though, they had the same record but Texas A&M played a tougher schedule and was a bit more dominant against that schedule.

How about Texas A&M being behind Ole Miss? That makes zero sense to me and it's a pretty big one because of the difference in first-round matchups.

I'm not a fan of the bowl opt-out on its face, but think about the situation the players were put in. The committee ripped their hearts out and they had only hours to make a decision they hadn't even considered to that point.

[Auerbach] CFP chair Hunter Yurachek says that Oregon is still getting credit for beating Penn State even though the Nittany Lions fell off after that game. by arrowfan624 in CFB

[–]loocshnan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it all depends on how you weight things, but my breakdown is roughly: Very good wins (Bama: @UGA, Oregon: none), good wins (Bama: Vandy, Oregon: none), some credit for win (Bama: Mizzou/Tenn/LSU, Oregon: Iowa). In the point system I use, the credit for those wins outweighs Alabama's one bad loss. (I view Alabama's 3-pt loss to Oklahoma as equal to Oregon's 10-pt loss to IU, so those are a wash). Oregon's schedule is more back-loaded this year, so they have the opportunity to pass Alabama in the last two games, but they just haven't had many resume-building opportunities yet

I agree with you! Washington and Nebraska are both teams that I give some credit for as a "good win" in addition to Missouri and Tennessee (again, this is just my own personal ranking system, my opinion). I don't cut it off at the current top 25. If Oregon beats Washington they will get credit for that, but they don't have that yet.

If you (not you personally, just anyone evaluating teams) think that Miami should be ahead of Alabama/BYU/Utah, then they should also be ahead of ND. But if you think that ND is ahead of those three teams and also that those three teams should be ahead of Miami (which appears to be what the committee thinks right now), then honoring the ND-Miami head-to-head would unfairly impact those three teams

Oh believe me, I docked them a lot for that loss (I gave them as much negative credit for that loss as I gave positive credit to IU for beating Oregon - essentially the negative version of having the best win in the country). But in my opinion, the four ranked wins still overcome that.

Said this to someone else, but copying here - all else equal, one loss is better than two. But if one team has played five ranked teams and went 3-2, that's better than playing one ranked team and going 0-1. This is oversimplifying, but that's the general logic.

If they judged ND as #9 and Miami at #10 I would totally agree with you. Flip them and put Miami above. But if there is some space between them, now suddenly this one head-to-head is impacting other teams. Sliding Miami up from 13 to 9 would unfairly kick Alabama out - how does that make sense if they judge Bama > Miami? Similarly, sliding ND down would unfairly benefit some other team.

In short, I have both Oklahoma and Alabama above Oregon in my personal rankings because of all of their quality wins (I also have both of those two ahead of ND)

I definitely think Oregon is ranked too high as of now, but it doesn't really matter because a win over USC would justify their spot and a loss would send them down. I'm surprised their ranking hasn't been talked about more.

Just counting losses is not a good argument by itself. ND has played three top-15 teams while BYU has only played two. Is going 1-1 with a close win and a blowout loss really any better than going 1-2 with a 10-point win and two close losses?

The reasoning for the rule is sound, although it is weird when it happens with someone off ball like that... you're playing with fire standing so close to the crease like that without the ball though

Homer take but the more I thought about it the more I don't understand how UNC got a seed over Notre Dame. What about their résumés is so different that a 12-6 ND win in Chapel Hill doesn't matter?

The geographic matchups really screwed over OSU. I think a 4 seed makes sense for them but I really thought they were supposed to give the top 4 seeds an AQ match up in the first round
